you are fucked in the head if you think even big sites have to go down for Maintenance once in a while. Or would you rather have crash while they try and implement some new code on the fly?

thats what multiple servers are for... take one rack down upgrade then work on the next set. if you're a big site that's what you do.

its not really that simple. It really depends on the setup. Database maintenance often requires the master server off which makes the site unusable for a while.
Adwords for example has maintenance periods all the time.
Don't worry about namecheap though it doesn't happen often.

Of all times for them to be down, for a little bit in the middle of the night!

No, that is not how it works if its a update of the core modules in the site. Multiple servers are for fail-over. But move to another service if you want. Just dont blame namecheap because they actually service their servers before they crash.

namecheap and moniker are the only two services that can compete with having your own host handle your domain names. Their security is second to none.

Check Godaddy and how many times they have lost domains, transferred locked domains and then check if you can find the same thing with namecheap

Namecheap is a SOLID service

.. but you got your 15minutes of GFY drama - grats

google is the only large site i have ever seen that has very little maintenace" problems but even google i have seen a few " downtime" erros as they upgrade.

shit happens.. if it happens often time for new shit
