Spikes in bandwidth
For movie galleries.. what is % is the spike out of the average out bandwidth usage?
ie. if you are using 30Mbits average do the spikes hit 50Mbits? Let me know... |
I peak 60-70% higher than my average on my movie servers.
|
hotlinkers can give you nice spikes

m0rph3us hit me up on icq, i need to speak to you.
icq in sig :glugglug |
so for video galleries would a 'per average billing' (30Mbits) account be better than a capped account (50Mbits)?
|
Per average would be better. If your not worried about paying the bill don't cap the bandwidth.
But make sure you have good protection against hotlinkers and such. This is the fastest way for your bandwidth to get away from you and put you in the poor house. Hit me up on ICQ if you want to discuss this. 4433144 |
m0rph3us:
The 30mbit average VS 50mbit capped. It doesnīt really matter which one you choose because the 30mbit average will peak at approx. 50mbit and the price is almost the same. I would choose Average though, because itīs nice to have the ability to burst the bw to test new stuff ect. |
m0rph3us, if you know that you need 30 Mbps average or 50 Mbps capped then just get the one that is cheaper.
Personally, I would go for the average even if it is a little more expensive since it will allow you to burst and not slow down your sites when you getting traffic spikes. Maybe even better would be to put the images and html on average so they will load fast and the movie files on capped to save money. |
