Kevin Garnett to Lakers!?

Reports are that the lakers are in talks with the Timberwolves and 2 other teams to get KG to the lakers in hopes of getting Kobe to stay....

I dont think it can happen. KG wont leave timberwolves.

A multi-team trade discussion is underway involving the Lakers, Indiana, Minnesota and possibly a fourth team, with the Lakers getting Garnett and the Pacers getting Lamar Odom and teenage center Andrew Bynum from the Lakers. Another minor player will likely be added to make the deal work financially.

Jerry Buss and Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor spoke by phone for 20 minutes Friday. Buss reportedly ended the conversation by suggesting that Lakers General Manager Mitch Kupchak and Timberwolves vice president of basketball operations Kevin McHale would continue the discussion Monday.

Such a move could address the concerns of Kobe Bryant, who has demanded to be traded for more than four weeks.

Bryant met with Kupchak for about an hour Friday, a day after Garnett rejected a trade that would have sent him to Boston.

Bryant did not step down from his desire to be traded. However, Kupchak, Buss and Lakers Coach Phil Jackson met later that day to discuss options based on the assumption they would still have Bryant, The Times has learned.

That would have to involve Jermaine O'Neal, I would think, right? Get ye to the trade machine to work out the rest of these details.

UPDATE: ESPN Insider Chad Ford says the key to such a deal might be the Celtics, who could get Jermaine O'Neal, while sending the fifth pick, Gerald Green, Theo Ratliff, and Sebastian Telfair to Minnesota. At first blush the Timberwolves seem to get the short end of that, but by kissing goodbye to Garnett and eventually Ratliff's contracts, Ford points out they would gain massive cap relief next summer.

It would cool if this went through, the shakeup might make the NBA more exciting and i would be glad to see Kobe off the lakers so i can root for them again.

Sosa 06-25-2007 03:49 PM

I don't see why the hell the pacers would want odom or bynum and then send Jermain O'Neal out. HELP

CyberAgeGary 06-25-2007 03:57 PM

This would definetely send the Lakers to the top of the Western Division.. Make it happen Buss...

bushwacker 06-25-2007 04:30 PM

kobe said he wants to leave no matter who they get, but he might just change his mind if KG rolled into town.

Ya, but have the best player in the NBA on their team, so everyone wants to watch...:thumbsup

How does adding KG, (the most overrated big man ever), to the Lakers make them any better? He's proven season after season that he just CAN'T win in they playoffs. You can blame his teammates all day long, but eventually you have to realize, he's just not as great as he's hyped up to be.

Then you throw in Kobe, the leagues worst ball hog in history and you've got a disaster. Teams win because they have 7 players who are very good at what they do. Teams don't win with one or two all stars and no role players.

Joesho 06-25-2007 05:25 PM

Not gonna happen that way!:)

It would be nice to see Kobe get some help. By himself, the Lakers are just a mediocre team.

Kobe is not the best player in the NBA, he is up there but you cannot clearly state that he has that crown.

and no not everyone wants to watch the Lakers, there entire game is Kobe, it is boring basketball, he cant alley oop to himself. :2 cents:

KG has got to be so fucking frustrated, I would rather see him with the Cavs.

I disagree. He may or may not, but it totally can happen. He'll be happy to go anywhere he thinks he can win a title.:2 cents:

Lemme rephrrase that. Basically I meant hes not going anywhere from this deal. There is no way a 4 way deal like this will be pulled off by the lakers, to get him. He will eventually leave Minni though that is sure, just not in this deal.
