Dammit - sound so soft with headphones..
I turned up the volume full blast on my computer, winamp sound is at max, yet i still hear barely anything on my headphones..
how can i turn up the sound? btw, the headphones have normal sound when connected to the tv/stereo |
go out, buy a fucking amplifier and some Monster Cable interconnects and a decent sound card, couple pairs of Bose 301's, hook it all up and start rockin'.....
computer audio on it's own sucks.... it needs *help* from some real audio gear. http://www.opticalamplitude.com/assets/rockon.gif |

yea i know :)
but for the meanwhile, how do i get my sound up higher? |
well, if you're sure you've checked all the volume settings.... the system volume, Winamp volume, any 3rd party mixers or equalizers you may have running, headphone volume (if equipped) and you know that your sound card isn't junk.... there's not much else you can do I'm afraid except open the files in an audio editor and amplify them digitally. Which is really not a good solution because when you DO correct your sound issues, your audio files will be over modulated and distorted.

If some walking cock didn't steal my digital camera I'd post a pic of my NHT 3.3 monsters with 400 watt Rotel monoblocks and Rotel fiber optic preamp...

get a pic dude.... |
I'll figure out a way to post one sometime but it prolly ain't gonna happen tonite.
A few years ago I used to be a designer at a high end home theatre company, the NHT rep wanted to get his line into my store and I told him if he got me the staff deal on the 3.3's I'd talk to my boss, he did, I did; a week later a moving truck delivered 360 pounds of booming fun. |

Last year when I left AT&T, I was at a point a few weeks after leaving them that I had to decide if I wanted to go to work for a major high end home theatre company in the Bay Area or take a stab at life & biz in the porn industry.... that was a fucking HARD decision bro.... I LOVE audio.... I fuckin' live and breathe it.... but all in all, I think I made the right choice.... :winkwink: I never went to my interview for them.... |
I dunno man if there's one thing I'd leave porno for it'd be that. It's like being renaissance man: you're 50% handy man, 50% acoustician, 50% electrical engineer...the only unfortunate part is you also get to be 50% preschool teacher teaching rich dildos how to use their remote controls.
Best job I ever did was for a client who had like a 300 laserdisc and 300 dvd collection...so a guy who actually LIKED movies (rare in that biz, if you know what I mean) AND he was an opthamologist who owned a chain of laser surgery joints. He said price was no object as long as he could hear the chain mail jangling in the battle scenes in Braveheart and couldn't hear anything but afterburner when the jets take off at the beginning of Top Gun. One Proceed front end and Snell THX system with quad Klipsch powered subs later, he was so thrilled with the system he let me drive his supercharged NSX for an afternoon. |

Sweetest system I ever installed. The subs were actually mounted inside the walls and I installed the blower from a swamp cooler with a feed from the HVAC system to cool them...it had a 60" Pioneer Elite monitor, which was the shit at the time...like $3500 worth of cables...the whole nine. I even used my trademark super secret ultra deep surround design for the rears: an aux pair of rear speakers wired to the main rears with a resistor to pad the level down a bit...mounted in the next room. Gives 'surround' a new meaning.
|
You know what was funny about that install, the guy wanted the 18" sub that comes with the Snell Theatre and Music system but I fucking told him there was nowhere near enough volume in his room for it, the prick still made me carry the fucking thing in and demo it for him...4 Klipsch 12"s made mad thunder and sound a lot tighter...plus each one had a $200 spiff on it.

Someday I wanna move into the Krell and the 80' plasma sceen class.... but then we're talkin' some serious $$$$$$$$.....
someday bro..... someday... :winkwink: |
Some rich ass defence lawyer who was a client consigned his Apogee 8's and Krell monoblocks at the store...I HAD to take them home and make sure they were like still in service...
Needless to say after hauling 400 lbs of Krell up the stairs...they were definitely in service. Fucking awesome sound. I listened to ever record I owned like twice that week. |

Then when people ask you why your stereo is in the middle of the floor you point out it costs as much as their shitty car and you'll put it where ever the fuck you like. Besides all that shit is too big to rack mount anyway, some Krell Class A's weigh in at over 100 lbs. And too hot. |
Actually the 700 series weighs in at 200 lbs, I think.

as much as a shitty car? Maybe you've been gettin' a insider discount or something, but last I checked, that shit was worth as much as a new Mercedes... |
I'm gonna get out my thermodynamics manual and see how many BTU's 6,ooo watts of power consumption would produce.
What's the efficiency of a Class A amp like 10%? Let's see, 1 watt equals 3.4 something BTU's per hour, times .9 of 6,ooo, holy shit. You could heat a small city with this thing! |
