Perez Hilton: Down for the count?
http://www.cnn.com/2007/SHOWBIZ/06/2....ap/index.html
It would appear that, yes, pressuring ISPs and hosting companies is a very good way to get things shut down. Porn people need to learn from this situation, DMCA after DMCA does get something done, because big companies don't want to end up on the hook for the criminals. They have something to lose, the criminals mostly don't. |
didn't he just move hosts? unfortunately there will always be a host who will have no issues hosting a questionable site...
|
Naw, he just moved hosts. His old ISP didn't want to get involved in his lawsuits, so they took the easy out.
He's getting sued based on copyright images. My guess, is it'll all get settled for a bunch of $$ that he's already racked in, and the site will go on. |
he moved hosts to somewhere that can't handle the site (I can't reach it)... likely to some dumb host that didn't know what they were in for when he got there. Apparently also all the back data and archives are locked on the old server and are unreachable.
For me right now the site is down. Even hour the site is down, it loses bookmarkers and links. In the end, that is how a site gets taken down... an hour at a time. |
surprised that it didn't happen sooner
|
btw.. anyone know how come deansplanet.com hasnt been shut down yet..?
Theres no way this guy is paying for all those photos.. |

Candid, exclusive celeb pictures are very expensive to license. Perez Hilton has probably use tens of millions of dollars worth of images on the site, and more importantly, has continued to use them long after being notified over and over again that he wasn't permitted to use them. There is no "oops, I didn't know", this guy is trying to use the satirical fair use concept to protect himself... which is a losing battle. He was hosting in Australia because he figured it would be harder for X17 to get after him. They still got to him. Latest hosting? Domain servers in listed order: PH2.PRESSFLEX.HU PH3.PRESSFLEX.HU PH4.PRESSFLEX.HU The second or third to last place you can hide these days... that for me is a sure sign of guilt from the word go. |
Who's that guy again?
|
Perez Hilton is just another attention seeking gay looser. I dont know why people give that moron so much attention. He is nothing but a leech.

I believe right now, X17 is seeking $7.5 million with another agency going for $7mill. My point of settling was, if he has the $, they may settle, with X17 and other agencies getting a cut of his site profits in the future as well. |
I still don't get why his site is supposed to be so popular. It's just some weirdo posting stolen glamouratzzi pictures with his ramblings written over them.
And most of it isn't even funny. |

X17's blog subscription package is as follows: Single images - $85/ea Up to 5 images/month - (5 images total, not 5 stories) - $300/month Up to 20 images/month - $1000 (keep in mind the lowest we charge any of our current clients for this deal is $1700/month) Up to 240 images/year - $10,000/year |
I told someone to do this in another thread - hitting the hosting/registrar is the way to go to get things done.

I'm not a Perez fan, but it seems like I can't search for anything movie, tv or music related without getting him in my search results.
On a related note, How do the celeb pay sites get away with it? I reviewed a site the other day that had OBVIOUSLY copywritten material in the member's area. Some was watermarked with the URL to pirating websites. They had full length music videos taken from illegal sites and tons and tons of Vanity Fair, People Magazine, etc, scanned in. Oh, not to mention stuff recorded straight off the TV from VH1 and other entertainment networks. |
