Are you an Organ Donor?

are you an organ donor?
if no, why not?

StarkReality 06-20-2007 05:00 PM

Honestly NO, I would if I could be sure that being an organ donor can't result in not surviving if I could have survived just because some filthy rich guy needs my heart and makes a big donation to the hospital.

Yes, call it paranoia.

Spiegelau 06-20-2007 05:03 PM

No. I indicated that I wanted to be dead first before they start harvesting my organs. I hope I won't be an organ donor for another bunch of decades.

Peaches 06-20-2007 05:04 PM

Yep, and I have been one for about 27 years.

nikki99 06-20-2007 05:05 PM

yes I am :)

nekrom 06-20-2007 05:20 PM

Yes, I'm registered for harvesting after death, as gruesome as that sounds.

But as 5 sick people can survive/live from the organs of 1 donating person, I won't need them when I'm in the ground. :)

k0nr4d 06-20-2007 05:27 PM

nope, I want to be buried with all my bits and pieces. SOMEONE's gotta feed the maggots.

Sosa 06-20-2007 05:46 PM

yes I am

fris 06-20-2007 05:47 PM

yes i am, someone should launch webmaster donor :p get everyone to sign their organ donor cards

CuriousToyBoy 06-20-2007 06:40 PM

Anything they can use they can have and hopefully if I help someone else my life has been justified.

For same reasons my body has already been formally donated to the local University Medical School, so some pimply nose Med Students can stick pencils up my ass and hopefully one day one of them will discover the cure for something or do something useful.

Probably a bio-engineered toxic waste treatment system based on my liver.

;-)

mattz 06-20-2007 06:41 PM

Yes, I rather help people if possible after I pass, I don't see why not.

Umm, I think that is what we are talking about here, after you die. Like on your license they give you that little orange sticker and you sign the back.

baddog 06-20-2007 06:57 PM

I was until they implemented the helmet law.

Angry Jew Cat - Banned for Life 06-20-2007 07:30 PM

nobody is gonna want my organs by the time i drop...

Yes, call it paranoia.

Totally misinformed while I was in the hospital (awaiting my HEART transplant last year) David Geffen's older brother was at UCLA awaiting a heart transplant. David Geffen has donated way over 10 Million dollars to UCLA, UCLA Heart Center no less. His brother died in the room across from mine while waiting for a heart donor.... yes it is a crazy subject but I am living proof donating organs is a thing we should ALL do...

see sig!!!:thumbsup

Spunky 06-20-2007 08:22 PM

Yes indeed I am..hopefully my organs wont be too damaged

direxxx 06-20-2007 09:36 PM

Yep! I don't need 'em when I'm gone.

EBORG9 06-20-2007 10:13 PM

I have been donating my organ all over Vegas for about 12 years now.
...and yes it is on my license.
What do I need my kidney for when I'm gone, and nobody is going to want my liver, so at best, they may get a graft of something.
Maybe use my lungs for a "Truth" commercial.

[ Nate ] 06-20-2007 10:40 PM

Yes, I'm not gonna need the stuff once I'm gone, so I don't care who gets my parts, as long as it helps them.

CaptainHowdy 06-20-2007 10:44 PM

Nope ...

ztik 06-20-2007 10:47 PM

I would be an organ donar if I could actually donate my organ. But instaid some poor guy will end up paying $250k for it. So, no. I guess I am an ass.

Cash 06-20-2007 11:35 PM

I donate my penis ...

They pay for costs associated with the organ. Transport, sedation, installation - that kinda stuff.

They don't pay for the organ itself. That's generally free to recipients.

I wonder if you could specify that your organs be donated only to countries with a universal healthcare system?

StickyGreen 06-21-2007 01:02 AM

Props to everyone who wants to help others with their body parts once they are no longer using them.

I don't think I am currently a donor, how do I change that?

Assuming you're in the States...

JaneB 06-21-2007 03:32 PM

Yes I am an organ donor when I die. I am also going to have a test done to see if I match anyone while alive. That way I can donate bone marrow or a kidney if I match anyone. So many people die while waiting for a donor, it is so sad. If I can help someone that would be great.

WhiplashDug 06-21-2007 03:40 PM

Yup. Always have been. Not that they are any good anymore... but when im gone, your welcome to them!

mortenb 06-21-2007 03:47 PM

I signed up to be a donor about 6 months ago after discussing it with my better half. I have no problems at all with them taking whatever they need after I'm done using it, but I would like it so that the missus can take a last look at me without seeing cuts and stuff all over my face.

Lonny 06-21-2007 03:50 PM

No I am not.

topbucksdarlene 06-21-2007 04:23 PM

Yes I am! Whatever they can use they can have!

CosmicTang 06-21-2007 04:33 PM

nope.

I've heard stories about doctors who sometimes jump the gun and decide a person in an accident is beyond saving so they can harvest the organs.

I'm not opposed to donating my organs, just not before i absolutely don't need them any longer. I don't want a trauma surgeon operating on me with conflicting motivations.

tiggernbs 06-21-2007 04:37 PM

My drivers license say I am :-P

You've heard myths.

The fact of the matter is that organ donation cannot go down until the patient is declared brain dead by a doctor that is not affiliated with the organ donation program.

Check out some more myth-busting facts regarding organ donation here:

I ride a motorbike, of course I am :thumbsup

chodadog 06-21-2007 04:58 PM

It's sad that there are people who elect not to become donors once they've died.

I wouldn't say it's sad. People should have the right to dispose of their entire body any way that they want. Sure, it's nice to help people in need of organs, but some people strongly believe in things such as being burried "whole."

Unless it's for some devout religious belief, I think that's a bunch of wank. And I certainly wouldn't say 1 in 3 GFY members is a devout believer in anything but the almighty dollar. I do think it's sad. How strongly must you believe in being buried whole knowing someone, or even several people could have a second chance at life because of your organs? The fact that it's 1 in 3 is extremely disappointing.

JP513 06-26-2007 11:25 PM

You damn right I am. If I'm not using them, I'd like to help someone else live.

It's a great quote folks:

"So that others may live . . ."

cooluks 06-27-2007 01:49 AM

Nyay... I don't want to be a disabled person... Hehehe :1orglaugh

But some of smuggles organs in black market...:Oh crap

media 06-27-2007 01:55 AM

Does sperm count? My ex wife seems to have used me for that service....

Fizzgig 06-27-2007 01:56 AM

I'm registered. The idea scares me a little though.
