USA no longer world's biggest pollutor - China is...
China is now building about two power stations every week, the top climate change official at the UK Foreign Office, John Ashton, has said.
He said there was no point blaming China for rising global CO2 emissions. Rich nations had to set an example of low-carbon development for China to follow, Mr Ashton told the BBC. His statement came as a new report suggested that China may have already become the world's biggest polluter - much earlier than expected. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/asi...ic/6769743.stm |
two power stations a week?
wtf? |
[QUOTE=Jace;12629029]two power stations a week?
Yes, I was a bit shocked/surprised with that stat. And they seem to dig the internal combustion engine too! http://www.audiworld.com/news/06/aud...ng/header2.jpg |
china rulez!

Aren't they suppoed to have a cap on how many kids they can pop out. It seems they are growing way too fast.

yeah! and they have to lead a campaign to lessen pollution.
|
Is that per capita?
|
Correct. No use blaming them.
The "west" or industrialized countries are the one's who've been polluting for years, and caused a lot of the grief (supposedly according to scientists) so why blame the newest addition to the polluting mass. Those who've been leading the way polluting, need to lead the way in green. :2 cents: |
they have more ppl, pollution comparisons should be done on a per capita basis

They have over 20 times more people than the US... I would hope they pollute more.

On eg oil - China has 21% of world population but comsumes 8% of annual production of oil. By comparison, the US has only about 5% of the world's population but consumes 25% of annual oil production. |

Currently oil imports account for almost 50% of the trade deficit. Cars consume around 45% of those oil imports (while public transport uses 25% and the balance going to industry). Any reduction in oil consumption would obviously aid the economic outlook. |

Too bad they are not building more nuclear power plants, which are CO2 free. They seem to prefer cheap coal which pollutes a lot more.

:( :( :( We're no longer #1 =( =( =( And China is killing more polar bears than we are :( :( :(

Anyone know how many power stations US has? |
China is an ecological nightmare.

why do you think the global warming scare is here? To try to slow down China and steal your money by making global warming taxes. Then 30 years from now they will all say... Shit I guess we were wrong about that global warming thing. Much like they did with global freezing.

"As yet, there are only 16 million cars in China - not many for a country with 1.3 billion people - and only one-tenth of one per cent of the Chinese people will be buying a car this year. But industry officials enthuse about a 20% rise in sales last year and a 30% sales rise during the first four months of this year. And looking ahead, sales growth will be given further shots in the arm, partly by a slew of government initiatives, but also by the country's rapid economic growth and, eventually, by loans for private car buyers from both car manufacturers and finance houses. "There seems to be no end to growth here," Automotive Resources Asia's Michael Dunne told BBC News Online. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/2026707.stm |
