Are you a good flyer or are you afraid to fly?
I am heading out over the Atlantic again this Saturday. I am a good enough flyer. I don't like take offs but that is because of that bit in the movie 'Say Anything' where they talk about how most problems with a plane happen within so many minutes of take off. Once we have been in the air a bit I am fine though and the only real fight is boredom.
However, I am travelling with somebody that is terrified of flying and has been focusing on all the possible things that could go wrong since the flights were booked four months ago. Are you afraid of flying and if so how do you calm your nerves? |
not afraid of flying. actually its safer than driving a car.
your friend should ask a doctor for some natural meds that calm him/her down.. or knock him/her out :D oldschool a-team trick j/K |
I'm the same as you Sarah - I don't like take offs but the rest of the flight is fine :)
|
Pussies... take off rules.
Its the only moment of real excitement on the whole flight. |
I am okay with having exactly zero excitement as part of the flight.
|
I love flying
I get ready like crazy...fill my zune up, charge my laptop...I am a media whore on the plane, at least 3 electronics running at once |
I love flying...
Cant wait to get on the plane to Vegas in a few weeks :) |
I like to fly, but I love to drink a beer or two before takeoff! :)
|
I hate flying... had a pretty terrifying time on a plane trip to go to my brothers funereal and since then I hate the idea of getting on a plane.

I love flying, although ever since Final Destination, I always look for "signs", hehe
|
not too bad - valium and large vodka normally do the trick - then a zopiclone so i sleep, that helps the boredom.
|
I consider myself a very good flyer. I was a bit hesitant taking off while a thunderstorm was starting once and landing in pure fog was a little scary as well, but overall I don't worry about it.
|
Mark me down in the terrified of flying category. :)
Sarah, I'll msg you a link I found recently that may help your friend. |
I don't understand.
What is it exactly that you are afraid of? |

No fear here, I LOVE to fly especially the takeoffs and landings! :pimp
I think if you understand the science and factual statisics of flying and still are afraid you should get some professional help because most likely the cause is control issues... :pimp |
I'm a pretty good flyer myself. But I would suggest alchool or even drugs for bad flyers.
:2 cents: |

The worst flight I was ever on was when I took my husband and my mother in law over to the States for the first time. I was sitting inbetween them and they both were smokers and afraid of flying. So, I had to nic-fitting people who were afraid of the flight on either side of me for eight hours. |

I'm not afraid to fly but I just hate flying. I hate being trapped in my seat next to a stranger for hours at a time. I'd much rather be in my car where I crank up the tunes, sing to my heart's content, and smoke all I damn please.
|
I don't mind flying at all, I just can't stand sitting around at airports.

I dont like flying alone..but I still do ok. I get really nervous when the flight is bumpy. Especially if Im very tired (like after a show) or if Im stuck in the middle seat between 2 big guys (for some reason, it's never 2 nice little ladies;) )
I read - time goes faster that way :). |
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE TO FLY!! :) But I'm weird as I also love to drive.
I'm trying to find the time to take flying lessons. |

I once sat in a plane for over an hour before we took off. At least the staff was sensible enough to give the coach peeps a free round of drinks about 40 minutes into the ordeal. :-) Then there was the time, before all my fame and fortune, when I spent the night in a terminal because the airline decided that my arrival at the counter 40 minutes before my flight took off (after waiting in line for over 45 minutes) did not meet their requirement of being there 30 minutes before the plane departed. I'll never fly Delta again. Once you're in the air - if you have issues - I think it's just best to realize that you don't have control over anything going on, and stress is pointless. And besides, of all the ways to go - a planeflight death is probably one of the best: it's relatively quick, you probably don't feel anything, and your family gets a nice chunk of change in the process. |
