Alien Bee Lighting Equipment

Hi,

I'm getting into photography and have just purchased a Nikon D80 plus some lighting equipment from Alien Bee Package B800....I've read some pretty decent feed backs from many people about their product and was wondering if that would be enough for shooting your everyday amataeur teens? I want to shoot something like nubiles kind off content verizon.t35. com/02. jpg I'm also looking into purchasing a softbox from ww w . henrys.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ItemsDisplay?storeId=10001&catalogId=10001&departm entId=11051&itemID=76359&categoryId=11007
Any help is appreciated thx = ).

Alien Bees are awesome. I shoot with White Lightening which is from the same company.

Good stuff.

I have never used it myself but I do plan on buying some in the near future.. I hear only good things about them on a bunch of photo forums.

Belinda 06-19-2007 05:35 PM

Alien Bees is what I use to shoot with. GREAT lights and cheaper to replace if something goes wrong. I shoot pretty fast sometimes and they can keep up like champs.

I have a few of them and love them, I drag them everywhere, from porn to weddings they have never failed me.

I love my AlienBees!!! And not just because I they come in pink.

tony286 06-19-2007 07:31 PM

I love alien bees, the guy who owns the company seems a little out there but they have a great product and great customer service.

ultimatebbwdotcom 06-19-2007 08:19 PM

I use a bunch of the alien bee 800's with the wireless transmitter - very robust and have never let me down. The bulbs last way longer than the 5000 exposures they guesstimate.

I didnt think that house was any Vegas hotel, that gold floor lamp is from IKEA and so is the Malm table, i have two of each in my studio for sets lol.

Juilan 06-19-2007 10:02 PM

I use the 800s also but am not overly impressed, for me Elinchroms or (non-strobe) Kino's are more my taste.

jonesonyou 06-19-2007 10:16 PM

can i borrow your cam

youre on the right track... i recommend also getting some pocket wizards for triggering the strobes. you should probably use 2 or 3 strobes...
i use aliens also..the 800 packs alot of light, i think mine are the middle size which is more than enuf for my shoots. it seems to me the aliens are wb at around 4800k, if anyone have actually measured it, i'd be very interested in hearing about it..

Huggles 06-20-2007 10:16 AM

I have 2 Alienbees 800s with the remote battery pack, and 2 softboxes for sale

vidvicious 06-20-2007 10:35 AM

when I first started .. I used an opus kit (150 watts x3) thekit came out to around 600 with the 3rd strobe, refesh time sucked, but the wattage was enough to light in a apartment or hotel room .. Now I use 250's and have various makes .. However I've heard really good things about Alien bees .. but can't seem to find anyone in Montreal with them ...

You got more then you need for what you want to

Red Ezra 06-20-2007 11:26 AM

sinclair 06-20-2007 12:05 PM

Have to agree, mine have never failed me, from adult work to glamour stuff my AB's are true workhorses.

JP513 06-21-2007 10:35 AM

Just wanna add my props to the Alien Bees. I used them for a shoot in January and they were terrific!:2 cents:

Alien Bees are great lights. Sturdy, great customer service if something breaks they'll fix it fast.

I have to agree with the pocket wizards. Im using the AB wireless transmitter and there are just a few more misfires than id like from a system that claims "up to" an 800 foot range.

Sometimes AB's wireless system operates faultlessly and sometimes i want to thrust the transmitter AND receiver units up the nearest models asshole.

lighting is physics, and great lighting technique seperates great photos from average photos.

most shooters do not understand that DOF, proper fill and bounce are used to isolate the important parts of the subject and camouflage the extraneous visual noise in an image.

i mean the this girl is cute. use proper technique to show the girl and not the soles of her shoes.

if we don't understand that, all the lighting equip in the world won't do much good.

I have 3 800s and a lot of accessories from them, love 'em.

Elli 06-24-2007 12:14 PM

I heart my Alien Bees kit. I got the "Digital Kit" from the website. Love it to bits! I just wish I had a proper softbox. That and a vertical grip are on my shopping list next.

they're not bad...the color temps seem to fluctuate & the strobes will fire when they're not fully charged - but for the money they're a great buy!
