Adult Friend Finder Offers FSC Matching Grant to Battle 2257 Changes
 

We are helping to raise $20,000 in addition to our normal yearly sponsorship of the FSC, we belive that 2257 is good in principal but the implementation of it does not work. Please help donate to this great effort to stop the new implementations of 2257, many people have forgotten this issue but it is a very very large issue and you continued support is needed.


PALO ALTO, Calif. - Sexual networking site AdultFriendFinder.com has offered a grant to the Free Speech Coalition that will match donations up to $10,000 made to the organization in aid of its fight against certain amendments to the 18 U.S.C. § 2257 record-keeping statute.


The amendments being challenged are those that, if made effective by the Department of Justice, would require so-called "secondary producers" to acquire and maintain records for every performer in every sexually explicit image used by that producer.

AFF marketing director Legendary Lars, in a press release about the new matching grant, called this provision a "draconian" one that "goes way beyond what is acceptable in a free society."

"The only organization actively fighting this provision is the Free Speech Coalition," Lars went on, "and we think they deserve support. Anyone concerned with first amendment rights and keeping the government out of our bedrooms should consider a contribution to help FSC in their 2257 battle."

FSC executive director Diane Duke noted that these addendums to the 2257 law would subject "secondary producers" to inspections by the FBI, as well. "Complying with the anticipated changes in the law would cost millions of dollars in additional staffing, filing and computer resources," Duke portended, "apart from the cost of defending prosecutions. We will challenge these changes to the law, but we need the industry's help."

having been through one of these 2257 inspections i can tell you that if you have your stuff in order then you have nothing to worry about. theres still a long way to go as far as secondary producers are concerned but its no big deal at all if you just have your shit together. we're a primary producer and it was easy. everyone should be taking it serious and taking the steps to be compliant. they are going to keep going thats for sure so might as well not wait until the last minute. take actions now to protect your businesses and lively hoods.

Well, number one, I was told by someone recently that their ads had been pulled from some torrent spy(?) site. So I don't know how accurate your accusation is.

Number two, I am not sure why you feel the need to bash AFF in every thread.

I think Lars should start a pool on who will be the guaranteed haters in any thread he starts and use that money to donate to FSC or ASACP.

I may have missed something - but didn't Lars say he was working on pulling all ads from pages on Torrent sites that even had a hint of CP on them - even if it wasn't actually CP?

If you were REALLY serious about fighting CP, and supporting ASACP, wouldn't it make sense to have your ads removed from sites that carry CP or suggested CP until that site could guarantee that your banners would not appear to anything that could be remotely close to CP?

Why keep it up and appear on those pages when you could pull your ads, and make a stand and say we will not appear on anything that may be CP and will not have our links there?

Waiting for them to do something is a bit odd to me, when you have the power to not appear on those pages and you put it on someone else to make it happen...

Nope. He said he was working on having the ads removed from the pages that contained CP. The rest of the torrent sites pages were ok. Summary? Working with sites that distribute CP is still ok, as long as the ads aren't put on the CP pages.

The imagecash account was pulled in less than 24 hours. Torrentz is more difficult?

What happens when defenders like yourself start trying to make sense and debate in threads like this? You keep fueling posts like this one from people more than eager to debate the issue, which in turn distracts and dilutes the purpose of the thread. Within a matter of 10 minutes AFF could pull ads from these torrent sites and say once you've fixed the issue let us know and you can carry our ads again.

Well that's easy to say as a program manager. However try to look at it from an affiliates POV. We don't get access to the 2257 info like you do when you buy content.

So the secondary producer issue is a big thing to a TGP or or style of free site operators.
