apparantly paul potts has actually trained for opera in italy and has performed in front of the popular opera artists etc, not sure if this was true but a friend said it was in the papers or something

He may have trained but he was still working a low level job. I know a lot of people that had some training on an instrument..had piano lessons, for example, but have not had any career success out of it. I only saw a bit of the show because I didn't realise it was all happening in one week..was there a rule that he had to a true amateur who never ever sang at all? I think those bartenders had bartending training.

Same. I saw it last Saturday, and thought that was it untill the following Saturday. It was Wednesday night i saw it on tv and thought wtf is this doing on, then when i checked i noticed it was actually on every weekday...

I liked the bartenders (esp the cute one). Anyway Paul deserved to win - My mum pointed out that he wasn't classicly trained - but WTF - he made my hair stand on end.

That's the sign of a good singer to me.

I doubt it...singers usually don't like to mess with things like their noses, teeth, mouth etc because it may affect their pitch...hence the reason Barbara Streisand has never had a nose job.
