Google should buy Yahoo
 

You might argue that Google is taking share away from Yahoo little by little and therefore should not spend the $40 billion or so it would take to buy Yahoo. However, the deal is very easy to justify:

• Google is better at monetizing traffic than Yahoo and would increase Yahoo revenues significantly
• Without Yahoo on the other side, Google could be less generous with sites such as MySpace and AOL and not have to give revenue shares of up to 100% with large pre-payments
• Buying Yahoo eliminates an aggressive bidder for the other online marketing properties on the market

The deal could probably be justified on these considerations alone. Add in the large cost savings that would come from severe headcount reductions at Yahoo and it?s a no brainer.

The deal might have a hard time getting through the DOJ, but as the combined entity only represents a minute share of the overall advertising market, a convincing case could be made.

Antitrust/monopolization issues might come into play. Shit they are already being watched under the scope.

I really don't think that google can monetize traffic in a better way than yahoo. YPN has better conversions

I really do not think there would be any monopolization issues. What about MSN or Alexa or Dogpile or AOL Search or Live. Although they are the biggest i dont see a problem.. It's not like satellite radio here! Plus i doubt yahoo would sell.

MSN would shit a legal brick. It would never get past anti trust laws.

No they should buy ebay or make their own free version.

Yahoo doesn't really have to agree to sell, google can just start buying yahoo shares...

I wouldnt be surprised if it's in the works after eBay's little tissy fit.

Absolutely agreed...and mailing them will get you an answer by an actual human, service is MUCH better.

You will see an ebay-Yahoo merger before google-yahoo (anti-trust).

Ebay and Yahoo would be a good fit.
