Have you had to deal with cancer?

Any tips on dealing with a family member with cancer? :(

RawAlex 06-13-2007 07:49 PM

If it is curable (even low percentage) keep on the happy train of "you can beat it". Encourage them to get treatment, keep looking for new treatments, and be there for them whenever they need you to try to make it better.

If it is terminal, prepare yourself for the long goodbye. Make all the remaining moments count. Keep working with them looking for potential treatment options, help them look for alternate opinions and cures, but mentally get comfortable with the end.

Either way, if it is someone close, it can really, really hurt. I have lost family members, close friends, and business associates to cancer. It doesn't get any easier.

My mother had breast cancer and beat it, hopefully your family member has a treatable/curable cancer.

The most important thing I can tell you is spirit, optimism, love and support. Proper nutrition also helped alot, my mother took alot of supplements and vitamins called 'life extension' and they worked for her. Good luck and best wishes to your family member.

I've dealt with cancer in our family over the years - lost two grandparents to it awhile back.

He said I was in my early forties, with a lot of life before me
And one moment came that stopped me on a dime
I spent most of the next days, looking at the x-rays
Talking bout' the options and talking bout' sweet times.
I asked him when it sank in, that this might really be the real end
How's it hit 'cha when you get that kind of news?
Man what did ya do?
He said

I went skydiving
I went rocky mountain climbing
I went two point seven seconds on a bull named Fu Man Chu
And I loved deeper
And I spoke sweeter
And I gave forgiveness I'd been denyin'
And he said some day I hope you get the chance
To live like you were dyin'

He said I was finally the husband, that most the time I wasn't
And I became a friend, a friend would like to have
And all of a sudden goin' fishin, wasn't such an imposition
And I went three times that year I lost my dad
Well I finally read the good book, and I took a good long hard look
At what I'd do if I could do it all again
And then

I went skydiving
I went rocky mountain climbing
I went two point seven seconds on a bull named Fu Man Shu
And I loved deeper
And I spoke sweeter
And I gave forgiveness I'd been denyin'
And he said some day I hope you get the chance
To live like you were dyin'

Like tomorrow was the end
And ya got eternity to think about what to do with it
What should you do with it
What can I do with it
What would I do with it

My grandfather I thought for sure was a casket case. He had bladder cancer, was also in his prostate. Doctor gave him six months to live after surgery + treatment failed. Kinda sad too since he is a "believer" and all that, believed in faith healing. He then started a heavy regiment of vitamin C based on Pauling Therapy (I think) and has surpassed the six month point and he's not getting any worse, but it's hard to say he's getting any better. Doctor has higher hopes for him now than what he did... cancer hasn't spread anymore but has not gone into remission, but I guess it is "contained" at the moment. That old fuck is going to probably outlive me.

PH levels in the body and blood oxygen is killers to cancer. I highly recommend that book Natural Cures they don't want you to know about by Kevin Trudeau. Since learning about the cure to all addiction Ibogaine, I am positive that God has created a natural way to heal all of us of everything. I know that the laws of our lands forbid this guy to print the natural cure outright for cancer but I also know he knows what it is and his updated book may indirectly point you to it. Good luck and I will pray you can find it.

If it is not possible to get help in time for your loved one like it was not for my father, all that you can do is learn from them, listen to them, allow them to be angry, expect them to be scared, love them, encourage them and assure them that God loves them and it will simply be a promotion.

Remember you are in need of all the things that they need too, as they are not alone, and you will suffer profoundly too. All these things you will need to feel and you will need some support too.

Great advice in this thread. My mom went through breast cancer. Still a live and kicking after 12 years.

I lost my father-in-law a week and a half ago. Aggressive kidney cancer. In early April, he was still himself. The decline was so fast. To his everlasting credit, he handled it like a true mensch.

In situations like this, i think all you can do is care for the people they left behind. Help them prepare and live their new life without their mate/father/brother etc.....

My grandfather died of lung cancer but I just watched my mother in law beat cancer for her second time. She just didn't want people to walk on glass around her.

apparently my father is now suffering of cancer...what we always do is to make him happy...we're giving him much attention, love and of course prayer...it is the best medicine to him...i know God will help him..

Yes I had, and it isn't fun. December 2005 my mother was diagnosed with intestinal cancer, one moth later (jan 2006) she passed away. Cancer is a bitch, cause you almost never see it coming. Luckily the cancer she had, wasn't a type that I could get through heritage. If you ask me, it isn't as big price to pay to get yourself checked with a scan/blood diagnoses every 2 years.

RuthB 06-14-2007 02:56 PM

my sister died exactly 6 months ago from ovary/lung/kidney/etc cancer, she started to get sick in November '06, and they couldn't figure out what it was, then her kidneys failed in late November and then eventually they found a huge tumour inside her womb/ovaries and she was dead within 2 weeks of that diagnosis (by that point it had already spread pretty much everywhere)

I don't really have much advice for you other than to be patient with them (they probably have LOTS of anger) and make sure you take care of yourself too and talk to your friends/other family members, it can be VERY hard, and you feel so helpless, especially when those you hold so dear to you are sick... :(

If one of your family members is sick with cancer Brujah, please accept my best wishes for a full recovery for them
