What part about 2005 did you not understand?

I get a call from a guy that says he found us on Google, and wanted to take me up on our "first month free" offer.

As I was unaware that we had any promo offering this, I asked him what search he did so I could see what he was talking about.

After putting in his search phrase "computer host first month free" I found the press release he was referring to.

In part, it states: "Got Web Host is now offering the first month free on both basic virtual hosting and SEO virtual hosting packages effective immediately and running through July 13, 2005. Additionally, the setup fees will be waived on all virtual hosting plans through July 13, 2005."

I pointed out that this was a promo from two years ago.

Him: "So, you won't give me the first month free?"
Me: "No, that was a promo that ended almost two years ago."
Him: "So, you won't honor it now?"
Me: "No, I am afraid not."

He then muttered something and hung up on me.

I am not sure I understand why someone would think that something that was offered two years ago would still be valid today.

I am not in a position that I need to give away free hosting. But thanks for your concern.

elite salesman

lazycash 06-13-2007 06:33 PM

Best to always give an expiration date on any promo. Creates urgency for the current promotion and alleviates any confusion down the road.

IllTestYourGirls 06-13-2007 06:35 PM

why couldnt you honor it? Are you making less than you did then? If the man took the time out of his day to try to get free hosting for a month from you why would you not think he would buy after it was done?

I am not bashing, just asking.

Well, it is like this, I really am not in the position to be giving away IP's these days. They are a commodity, and there is a shortage. If I was sharing IP's among customers I could do it, but we don't share IP's.

Nicky 06-13-2007 08:09 PM

Maybe he just took a long shot and hoped you maybe would agree to it. Or he might also have been plain stupid :)

RawAlex 06-13-2007 09:00 PM

It must be nice in a position to tell potential new business to take a flying jump.

SilentKnight 06-13-2007 09:10 PM

A real salesman would have turned that lemon into lemonade.

jonesonyou 06-13-2007 09:13 PM

well stupid people should not be aloud to do business.

Guess I should have read the whole promo, well now I think its just silly that he contacted you when it was clearly written that the offer was almost 2 years expired.

To be honest, I turn away a lot of business. I am relatively confident that this guy would not know what to do with multiple C's if he had them. Doing a search for "computer host" kind of tipped me off.

Stupid people should not be allowed to post about other people.

How about for getting upset that it did not work?

Andiz 06-14-2007 12:04 AM

''computer host first month free'' ......that should say enough about the customer :)

I beleive this could've been avoided.....

Sounds like he was off base.

World's full of people who stamp their feet when any thing doesn't work out like they planned it to.

Shoulda offered him the 6th month free though. :)

Like I said . . . . that is why I did not spend a lot of time trying to make lemonade.
