LOL, I knew someone was gonna raise that. I was betting that GFYs autoresizing of images would help me escape the flames. Guess not :1orglaugh:helpme

I used to live with a smoker and even though that I don't smoke my breathing is much better after a few years of not being around the smoke.

BucksMania 06-13-2007 05:11 AM

Gentle_Ben 06-13-2007 07:05 AM

Michaelious 06-13-2007 07:06 AM

Thank god i don't smoke.

Tom_PM 06-13-2007 07:08 AM

Man that is so true. If you're a 2 pack a day smoker who gets laid up for a few days in the hospital or something with no smokes, it's a real eye opener.

martinsc 06-13-2007 07:11 AM

damn, i need a new pack ....

sexy-babes.tv 06-13-2007 07:12 AM

I've actually just gave up (again!) - chewing on the nicotine gum as we speak !
I've set that image as my background to remind me to keep at it, thanks :thumbsup

Angry Jew Cat - Banned for Life 06-13-2007 07:40 AM

I'm going to have a smoke now.

I should really quit, and I've been trying, this is the first pack I've bought in almost 3 weeks. Unfortunately, I've been hauling through it like a motherfucker...

Same here, man. Same here.

Quitting is a bitch for the first 6 months. The craving is just GNARLED UP. It gets easier as time goes by though. However, I'm just being honest--whenever I get REALLY stressed up nowadays the craving comes back. Much much mellower than before but it does come back. Maybe after 1 to 2 more years, it would be completely gone.

I smoked from age 15 all the way to 35 with a 2 year break in between.

To all former smokers out there, keep up the good work!
To those who want to quit--you can do it... it's hard but its doable.

RuthB 06-13-2007 10:55 AM

I've been trying for some time now, but somehow the allure of those cancer sticks just keeps getting me :(

D 06-13-2007 11:00 AM

3 more years until the "heart attack chance returns to that of a nonsmoker" milestone here.

Strickie 06-13-2007 11:09 AM

I'm on day # 5 and feeling great, still have a long way to go though :thumbsup

your brain associates the dopamine release from the cigarette with calm.

dont let it fool you.

yeah right. everyone says that right up to the point they are laying in a hospital bed dying for absolutely no reason at all and their kids, wife and family are clutching them and in tears as they watch you slip away.

munki 06-13-2007 11:52 AM

Fuck... I need to quit...

All I can say is WOW. It amazes me that even if smokers don't know how bad it is for them, they don't care about how horrid them smell. :1orglaugh

Similar results for one of my friends. He coughs up phlegm constantly now (didn’t before), has trouble breathing at night when he’s laying down, and put on a few pounds. Been smoke free I think for about a year.

Sounds like his body is still detoxing...Must have smoked a pack a day plus.

biskoppen 06-13-2007 12:43 PM

I thought smoking was something you did untill you found at, as a 14 year old, the though factor really wasn't worth it ;)

$5 submissions 06-13-2007 03:17 PM

The worst cravings I got was after meals. Those first 6 months quitting were ROUGH. But I gotta say, it gets easier after that. It's been 4+ years now and it gets easier with time but the craving does come back from time to time (usually with stress).

germ 06-13-2007 08:08 PM

im a couple of months away from the 1 year mark.

hopefully i wont have a heart attack before then :P

tony286 06-13-2007 08:10 PM

My father quit smoking 20yrs ago the cancer in his brain is lung cancer. So that shoots that graph to shit.

Spunky 06-13-2007 08:18 PM

I could probably quit the cigs but continue the reefer..double edged sword

RedShoe 06-13-2007 08:57 PM

There's the part of the graph BEFORE the 20 minute mark, and that's when you post on GFY to say you "quit smoking 5 minutes ago."

Angry Jew Cat - Banned for Life 06-13-2007 09:01 PM

i can quit smoking weed far easier than i can quit smoking cigarettes. The funny thing is for some INCREDIBLY STUPID reason I didn't start smoking cigarettes regularly until I turned 21. FOr a year or so I figured they had no grip on me, now it's been around 2 and a half years and I honestly want to destroy things when I'm not smoking. I've quit for a 3month period and a month and ahalf period, and i always wind up coming back. Drinking causes me the bigges tissue while trying to quit. Any smoke rknows that once you get a few drinks down the all you want to is a cigarette, and more than likely YOU WILL find and smoke one, then its all back downhill from there...

When I quit for the 3 months stretch the first couple weeks were terrible, i felt feverish, hacke dup phlegm nonstop, was irritable, wasn't eating right. The shit is terrible and everyone knows it.

But as Denis Leary so eloquently put it "It doesn't matter how big the warnings on the cigarettes are; you could have a black pack, with a skull and crossbones on the front, called TUMORS, and smokers would be around the block going, 'I can't wait to get my hands on these fucking things! I bet ya get a tumor as soon as you light up!'"

SilentKnight 06-13-2007 09:04 PM

Still smokin' at 43 - started at 14.

Mebbe I'll wise up and set a goal of quitting soon after thirty years.

My old man got himself hypnotized years ago and hasn't smoked since (he was a pack-a-day smoker). He swears by the treatment, and said he never got cravings after the sessions.

CaptainHowdy 06-13-2007 09:11 PM

More than 2 years without a smoke and never felt better !!
