In comparison to the shoe, very little. The shoe is probably the most important invention that humanity has ever known.

I disagree with notabook, I feel the U.S. Army's P-38 can opener is the finest invention ever.

I'm guessing windshield wipers have had a greater impact on society than I really had a desire to think of. I'm sure they have lead to fewer accidents and probably even saved lives.

The overall design still sucks though, especially when you have to change them in subzero temperatures.
