Help me choose a motherboard please :)
Hi there this is my first build and I have got a core 2 duo E6600 and 8800 GT but I'm lost on what motherboard to get :helpme
I want to run XP and I do a lot of video editing if that matters. I see people recommending to get a board with an intel chipset but i don't really know the difference. How is this one? http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicatio...&Sku=A455-2322 If you think I need anything else you would recommend like whats a good hard drive please post your recommendation. Thanks for the help:thumbsup |
Go with ASUS, and pretty much spend what you can. That one you are pointing to is a pretty good deal, especially if you are going to take advantage of the Nvidia features on the board.
Good luck with it :) |

I've heard a lot complaints about tigerdirect, most people in Canada seem to like ncix.com. If I were you I would wait until July 22, the Q6600 (quad core cpu) is suppose to drop half of the price it is now(Intel price cuts). A quad core cpu would be much better for encoding. |
Btw the motherboard you posted has a nVidia chipset, you do know that right? Not that there's anything wrong with nVidia...
Here's a few with the latest Intel chipset... http://www.ncix.com/products/index.p...nufacture=ASUS http://www.ncix.com/products/index.p...cture=Gigabyte |
cess, good point - getting a board that would be quad core compatible would be a good step if the need is now.
The Nvidia chipset actually has some pretty good reviews. A board like this: http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicatio...410&CatId=1533 Would be compatible with the quad cores... a little more money now, but ease of compatibility for at least the near future. |

But the Intel chipsets don't support SLI, so if you run games and want two nVidia cards then you need a nVidia chipset not Intel. Intel does support multiple ATI/AMD cards(crossfire) if you went with that brand video card instead of nVidia. |
I think I agree with RawAlex

I like DFI boards the best
|
I'd go with ASUS
|
first of all, fuck tigerdirect. use newegg instead. and then go with abit

This brand war stuff is kind of ridiculous. I know there are some shitty brands out there but Asus, DFI, Gigabyte, and Abit are all good motherboard brands. It's better to look up reviews of the motherboard and/or go with the latest than to stick with one brand. Every now and then the best companies can make crappy motherboards, shit happens.

Thanks for the info guys I live right by a tiger direct thats why I posted that. I ordered the E6600 from directcanada.com out in vancouver but I've never ordered from ncix.com
Yes I know the board I posted is not intel...it just looked like a good deal..but I don't really know. I have the E6600 right now so it would be nice to be able to the quad later if they are going to be cheaper...but right now I need a computer so I have to get a board for this e6600. Ok let me check out these links and see |
