Why do people think you made it if you have a flashy car?

Shit, many of the people that have flashy cars can't afford them anyway. I've got a friend who's got a new 3series, yet he lives in NY (rented apt) and he's 50k in debt :2 cents:

Half the people in LA drive BMWs they can't afford. Then you go to their place and their appartment or small home is practically empty. :1orglaugh

the TV Generation.

You are supposed to have flashy cars, nice houses, hot girl friend, and do nothing as far as work goes.

Three of the richest (multimillionaires) I know drive:

Suburban
Four Runner
F350

I think there's a period when you start making money where you really, really want to spend it on flash and then after a while, realize that you're probably not impressing people you WANT to impress and you start buying what makes sense.

:2 cents:

Cause "people" are stupid. Simple as that. :)

Because they don't know jack shit about your financial difficulties.

tranza 06-11-2007 04:03 PM

What car do you drive?

GatorB 06-11-2007 04:04 PM

I see a guy in expensive sports car I think he has a small penis.

TheDoc 06-11-2007 04:05 PM

I drive a kid wagon, beat up, the rain just washed it, the drink holder is stuck with kid goo... The gold chain hanging from the mirror gives me my bling status, so it's all pimp.

The richest guy in Omaha (Warren Buffet) drove like a 1997 lincoln or something like that. They auctioned it off on ebay for charity recently. His lisence plate said "Thrifty"

It's a matter of priorities...Mr.Thrifty laid out nearly 10m for a private jet back in 1989. He could've taken a lot of coach seats for that.

I had a flashy covertible then sold it and got a non-flashy truck. I bought a house a yr after I got my car. My priorties have changed over the past 2yrs and I want a nice(r) house and more rentals :2 cents:

I had some friends from all different areas of my life over for a BBQ. The question came up about if I can do all of this shit on the internet, why am I not rich?

The guy asking that question perceived me as barely making it... Why? Because I rent a 3300sq ft 5BD/4BA home and drive 2 used cars. A 98' Jeep Cherokee and a 98' Suburban.

If I was rich or well off I would be driving a BMW or an Infinity. I would own a home and not rent...

But I guess I have different priorities than most people. I invest a lot of money back into my business and it shows. I quadruple my income every year. I probably will not buy a home until I can pay 1/4 of it in cash and I am looking in the 1.2 to 1.6 million price range.

I also won't buy another new car again for life... Why pay $45,000 for something that will just depreciate to $30,000 in 2 years and in 5 years will be completely out of style and sell for $16,000 in mint condition?

i have 3 rental houses, all of my tenants have nicer cars than i do.

i understand his priorities... god i hate sitting in those small economy class airplane seats without any leg room, tucked between other chairs with only one arm rest for two persons... that's why i hate flying.

seeric 06-11-2007 06:30 PM

i dont consider material objects making it. i've made it in my mind. i'm happy, i have money in the bank, and i have a very streamlined life. no baggage. etc. etc. making it is a matter of perspective.
