Do you allow yourself an actual weekend?

The nature of the work most of do means odd hours. For years I worked through nearly every weekend I had just do get that 'one last thing' done on a site. In the past few months I have been trying hard to make myself step away from work totally over the weekend.

What about you, do you have an actual weekend or do you tend to work through?

martinsc 06-11-2007 03:11 AM

what is a weekend?

BucksMania 06-11-2007 03:15 AM

uh i've been trying recently, its hard thing to do
but hey, at least im not limited to just the weekend
i mean i can take a break every day i feel like taking break

not that i do that but......knowing that u can is good :)

I try. The 18 hour days fly by quick though. My wife has to pull me off the laptop so we can relax on the weekends. Just like someone said, if you LOVE what you do, you don't really have a "job." :)

BlackCrayon 06-11-2007 05:48 AM

I work way less but still check up on stuff and do things here and there. I force myself to take a few weekends off a year though.

calibra 06-11-2007 05:57 AM

Yes, I do. And it feels so good :thumbsup

Zuzana Designs 06-11-2007 05:58 AM

I try but seems i always end up working

RawAlex 06-11-2007 06:07 AM

I don't, but I also don't get upset if I take a day here or a day there to get things done. The flexibility of this work means that you work when you can (even if it is a weekend) but you then get to take days when you need them.

viki 06-11-2007 06:08 AM

I don't really try to take weekends off but I tend to take two days a week off naturally - usually Thursday is one of them.

jdc 06-11-2007 06:10 AM

i work on saturdays... but i take a rest during sundays...

AM Jeff 06-11-2007 06:16 AM

I did yard work and piddled in the garage, fixing shit around the house.
I gotta do all this on the weekends or this place will fall apart.

Funbrunette 06-11-2007 06:16 AM

Absolutely! The day my son was born I figured out quickly I had different priorities. I get as much work done, but I have a rigid schedule that I follow to a "T". :winkwink: It's been 4 years and it's working out very well!

CurrentlySober 06-11-2007 06:27 AM

My 'Weekend begins on Friday at 8.00pm signaled by my 'Norton' doing its weekly system check...
I take that as a signal to actively leave the PC alone for as long as possible, and to make plans to go out on Saturday... By Sat night, Ive just gotta check the emails...

Midday Sunday, I check in again, and by Sun eve, its business as usual...

Before that I just worked thru, but then decided... Fuck it. I'm not getting any younger. I MUST MAKE TIME...

So I try... And usually fail :)

Yeah that feels more natural to me too but everybody else in my life works to normal weekends so it sort of makes me do it too.

Scott McD 06-11-2007 08:01 AM

I do. I only really get to see the gf at weekends, so i make sure i've done as much as i can do work wise, so that i don't really need to worry about it at the weekend, and i can have a couple of days to relax, and enjoy myself...

pornguy 06-11-2007 08:01 AM

I do, and I dont. Even though we now take most of the weekend off, I am still on in the am, the mid afternoon, and then late evening on both Saturday and Sunday.

ztik 06-11-2007 08:25 AM

I didn't even really get on the computer all weekend. Friday me and a girl went out to the bars, saturday I went camping, and sunday I went to a picnic. Next weekend its a wedding then out taking the boat out to the lake for the rest. Summer kicks ass :)

SykkBoy 06-11-2007 09:46 AM

I have my kids with me for the summer and a new girlfriend...I've learned to allow myself a weekend, though I still check emails once in awhile...by doing that, I'm much more rested and relaxed so I can work harder during the week and stay more productive since I'm less likely to burn out...

Sosa 06-11-2007 09:47 AM

I usually do a little work saturday mornings and then take sunday off.

Jman 06-11-2007 09:48 AM

I use to not allow myself a bit of time but now I do and it feels great. I got a better social life and friends outside the industry.

I also date more ;-)

Anna_Miller 06-11-2007 10:41 AM

We try to take days off here and there for a little sanity - not always on the weekend. But Bruce usually works a little each day.

Donkey Punch 06-11-2007 10:42 AM

I didn't even realize it's monday !

madawgz 06-11-2007 10:43 AM

i party 5 days out of the week ;)

Big_D 06-11-2007 10:50 AM

haha, thats real funny

mattz 06-11-2007 10:51 AM

usually working

D 06-11-2007 10:58 AM

Yep.

I reserve one day for personal stuff I have to get accomplished (shopping, housekeeping I didn't get done during the week, homework (when applicable), etc.), and one day for relaxation where I spend most of the day cooking, tending to my plants, brewing, napping, catching up on T.V., hitting up a game on the computer, reading out by the pool, etc...

of course, bits of work intermingle in my weekends now and then, but, since I also allow myself time to catch T.V. and go out with friends for an occasional beer during the week - I figure it's all good. I consider regular rest a necessity to maintaining a stable and efficient mind.

starpimps 06-11-2007 11:11 AM

well..before i go out and get absolutely smashed on Fridays and Saturdays i like to at least get some work done..not a biggie tho

seeric 06-11-2007 12:11 PM

That's the spirit, it's not about # of hours worked only, productivity is the key and requires relaxing as well.

Edit: Wanking off to your own sites doesn't count as "relaxing"

In fact, you should be able to write off the clean up tissues.
