649 is $40,000,000!

I couldn't believe it when I read the sign at the store today. Just had to buy myself a ticket.

minniesoporno 06-10-2007 03:34 PM

I have better chance of making that in the porn industry then playing the lotto.

Chef86 06-10-2007 05:15 PM

You could but winning the lottery would be pretty excitng

BucksMania 06-10-2007 05:15 PM

ur chance to win something is much better when the jackpot is smaller

WiredGuy 06-10-2007 05:16 PM

That's odd, I thought someone won on Saturday the $37MM prize?

Thats what I thought to I had to look at the sign twice, I guess no one won so the winning prize went up.

pornguy 06-10-2007 05:18 PM

Might we well risk the 1$.

SomeCreep 06-10-2007 05:27 PM

We are 138.

cool1 06-10-2007 05:30 PM

Yep
The $37,000,000.00 LOTTO 6/49 Jackpot for Saturday June 9, 2007 was won by one lucky ticket purchased in Ontario, (as usual).
This Wednesday's Jackpot is an estimated $40 Million.
I am hoping the next one is won in the West, like right here at my house :winkwink:

actually the chances are the same since the numbers are the same as nothing is added or removed.
i think what you meant is that your chances of sharing it with someone else is less when the jackpot is smaller as less people play :winkwink:

$40 mil for the jackpot? That's not too much, around here it's always usually 80+ and above 100-150 isn't rare, last october it was like 218

There's a couple of huge differences.

The Canadian 6/49 is paid out in one lump sum and is tax free.

What's the lump sum payout on $80M after taxes?

Your thinking on this is flawed in one important way. First off, $40 mill is not "nothing" no matter how cool you want to act. Second, there are only 33 million people in Canada, so a jackpot this size is HUGE for us. That's about $1.20 for every citizen in the country. In order for any of your US lottos to be comparable it would have to be up over $350 million. That's how huge this is by comparisson.

And ours is tax free. I'll say it again, ours is TAX FREE. Our Revenue Canada (Canadian IRS) doesn't stick their nose into our winnings and steal 40+ % right off the top like yours does. A $40 mill win here IS like a 70-80 mill win in the US... especially when our dollars are nearly at par right now.

Oh cool, hopefully that money was well spent. I thought that perhaps someone didn't which is why this 6/49 is higher.

For the past month or so the 6/49 has been having special draws, using reserve funds that have accumulated mostly from the thousands of unclaimed prizes that have occured, or so I'm told. Most of these extra-large jackpots have been won in recent weeks, but because these are special draws the jackpot will keep going up until that reserve runs out.

This past draw for $37 million was won by one ticket in Ontario. One of the large pots from last week was one by two tickets, one from Ontario (of course, damn lucky Ontarians) and one from Quebec. Someone from Winnipeg and I believe from Edmonton each won $100K on the "extra" as well.

I'm not sure how much longer these special draws will last, this $40 mill could be the last one or it could go for a few more weeks and maybe reach a $50 mill draw, I don't know.

Nysus 06-10-2007 07:11 PM

Your odds are the same, but the amount you win could diminish because if more tickets are bought the possibility of duplicate tickets of the winning number bought increase. :) Even $10 million tax free would be nice. *shrug* $1 million even. They should let there be 37 $1 million winners..

Chef86 06-10-2007 07:20 PM

I totally agree with you on that Nysus
