I didn't know the feet were outside the super strong carbon fiber cockpit shell. Maybe the impact was so strong it cracked the front open?

I watched the race and it was a really horrible crash. He's one lucky man to walk away from that with only a broken ankle or leg. Not sure what it is he broke.
