Converting AVI to WMV - How?

Ok, this is one of those things I have been trying to figure out for months now.

I've downloaded about 12 different pieces of TBUB software, and nothing seems to work the way it should.

This isn't for work - this is for my friend to do things up quick for herself so no using Final Cut or Adobe or any of the pro stuff - I just need a SIMPLE solution!

Please please please if anyone can point me in the right direction I would appreciate it!!!

I forget but doesnt windows media encoder convert avi to wmv?

movie maker, drag the clip in the bin. then in the timeline. click >file>save to my computer> set the bitrate and save. Easy as pie.
