WTF a packet of cigarettes $6.80 in the US???????

just watched a movie where a dude buys a packet of "Parliament" for $6.80

that's way too expensive, I'm sure there're cheaper brands but maaaaaaaan, if you take the ratio risk/reward as a criteria you're probably better off smuggling cigarettes in the US than cocaine

FreeHugeMovies 06-07-2007 10:52 AM

Good I hope all of you guys STOP smoking. Terrible habbit!

cranki 06-07-2007 10:52 AM

So true. :winkwink:

XXXTony 06-07-2007 11:04 AM

Like everyone else is saying, it's good motivation to kick the habit. If I was a smoker though I would be really pissed.

TubeTitans_SusieQ 06-07-2007 11:05 AM

thats a horrible price, things like this should be a good reason for people to quit, its getting way too expensive.

Jace 06-07-2007 11:10 AM

yeah, those that don't live in the south have higher prices

it is $3 a pack in georgia for my winston and camels

OMG!!!!!! :S :pimp:Oh crap

D 06-07-2007 11:22 AM

that's 34 cents a smoke. Jebus.

Even back when I smoked (at $.15 per cig in individual packs) I didn't see the sense in buying individual packs when you could get cartons at bulk rate.

Or even cartons of cartons even cheaper per stick.

I mean, if you have a brand, and realize you're an addict, why not budget it? :-)

I wish it were about 100x that amount, them maybe I wouldn't be choking when I'm bouncing at the bar. At least most of the time I get to stay just outside the door. :)

everblazin 06-07-2007 01:22 PM

When I first started smoking, cigarettes were $.20 a pack. When they went to $.50 I quit.

IllTestYourGirls 06-07-2007 01:32 PM

I'm all for it. Some fucker smokes for decades knowing it's bad for him. Then when he's in his 60's he has lung problems or cancer and I'm picking up his tab for his medical bills. How is that fair to me? Either this tax would encourage him to quit which means I'm not footing his medical bills or the cigarette taxes are paying for it. My state just raised cigarette taxes by 42 cents a pack. They're still one of the lower taxes on cigs in the US at 62 cents. N Carolina and Knentucky have the lowest taxes. They are also the two largest producers of tobacco. Go figure.

madawgz 06-07-2007 03:30 PM

in montreal its around 9$ per pack

Michaelious 06-07-2007 03:32 PM

Works out alot more expensive in uk.

You have a great point and I agree with 100% However, has your land tax gone down since they raised the cig tax? Has your income tax gone down since they raised the cig tax? Has your workmens comp gone down since they raised cig taxes? :error Mostlikely not, up up up up taxes go up up up :)

A lot of the cig tax is being wasted on pork. :2 cents:

emjay 06-07-2007 03:52 PM

$10 in UK...

PIn the US theya re called Property Taxes. They are used LOCALLY not nationally or even satewide. And mostly they are used to fund the school budget in most areas. So the cigarette atxes has no baring on that.

Incomes rates are lower sicne 2001.

Once again one has nothing to do with the other.

Well of the 42 cents in increased cig tax 40 cents is going to be used for k-12education and 2 cents is being used for funding of trauma centers. As I said a higher tax leads to less smoking this is proven fact. The less you smoke the easier it becomes to quit. Also reduces the damage you do.

Aussie Rebel 06-07-2007 04:09 PM

I pay about $17 a pack in Australia

SomeCreep 06-07-2007 05:10 PM

I'm of the opinion that anything unhealthy should be very expensive. That goes for food and drugs. I think a Big Mac should cost $10 dollars and fruit like apples and oranges should cost $0.05 each. Cigarettes, which are both unhealthy and addictive should cost $25 per pack.

If the world worked this way, I imagine there would be a lot more people eating healthy and not drinking or smoking.

Mr. Romance 06-07-2007 05:18 PM

I do not smoke, but here in South America you can get a 5 carton pack for $55 dollars. So $11 dollars per carton.

Mr. Romance

MattO 06-07-2007 05:27 PM

I'm going to create BLING CIGARETTES and put some fucking zirc's on them and sell them for 400 dollars a pack to rappers.

Firehorse 06-07-2007 05:31 PM

I don't smoke, however I think that as the price continues to rise .... some people will pay almost anything and some won't (just like in the past) ... value - it' all relative!

pornmasta 06-07-2007 05:37 PM

let's eat betel nut ;)

nico-t 06-07-2007 06:24 PM

about 6 months ago: 4 euros for a pack (20 cigs, 0.20 a cig)
then it became 3.80 euros for a pack (19 cigs, still 0.20 a cig)
two weeks ago went to 3.90 euros for a pack (still 19 cigs, 0.205 a cig)

my guess by the end of the year we pay 4,20 euros a pack of 18 cigs. In 10 years we will pay 15 euros for a pack of 9 cigs.

djroof 06-07-2007 06:32 PM

Here in Greece about 3 euros ;)
