Does anyone need Large Verio pipes for less?
 

I have a new mainstream media business that is using several gig-e connections from Verio. Because of this level of business, Verio is extremely accomodating to us. They are open to giving special discounts to our freinds that need large amounts of B/W since they want to keep us happy. Some people can even get the same price we have depending on traffic.

I constantly see talk on GFY about prices of B/W and who's pipe is good, bad or ugly. I figure, since I have an open door, why not try to bring everyone's price down a little and make good pipe a bit cheaper if possible.

He he he... no. I'm sure they will still profit from whatever they can do. I don't think they will ever allow an account to cost less than operating expenses plus some profit.

um.. verio is losing money, big time. they closed many datacenters they mistakenly opened over the years and are still not profitable. they may never be. they are selling services below their costs because they have to to compete.

i give 'em about 2 more years before NTT sells them off or shuts them down.

Umm... Ok. I've never known Japanese companies to be short sighted when it comes to business plans. I don't work for Verio but I have done some work with the DoCoMo folks in Japan and from what I've seen the business plan goes further than any momentary telecom turmoil.

I think the Japanese are trying to take over the world s l o w l y.

Yes, they are losing money, but then again, WHO ISN'T!? Their hosting business IS profitable, however, their broadband division is not (telco issues, etc.).

They closed data centers so they could consolidate into 3 perfect ones...they are using neutral colocation companies like Equinix, Switch & Data, and Universal Access in the other areas where they closed the data centers...where's the problem?

NTT has funded them for an additional 36-months, and we shall see after that...but in this world, to have a 36-month guarantee is pretty damn good.

Actually, prices are going to start going back up in a 6-9 months...there really aren't that many players hanging around who can compete anymore...and companies like Verio need to start increasing their profit margins or fall prey like the rest.

I would say you are right Auslander because that's a sound assessment. The reason I think differently is the increase in broadband traffic we will see starting next year with the way Covad & Verizon are starting the trend of offering BB service for Aol dialup prices. Aol is expected to get into that game soon.

I figure if they can increase the amount of accounts due to the increase in media traffic they can finally start to fill some of the dark pipe everyone is sitting on.

Case in point...that's why most of these carriers have shit the bed...they got funded, did MAJOR build-outs, and never filled the pipe...simple economics...now we are seeing the classic supply and demand model...price goes down, sales go up.

I do know this Verio....does want to get more porn site's hosting... They are not and will not shout it from the roof tops... but they want your business... And you can dicker with them on price.. if anyone wants or need a contact at Verio let me know...

Actually Verio is pretty proud of the Adult industry and is not afraid to boast it to their "high-brow" clientelle...They understand that if it wasn't for the Adult industry, the Internet would be a fraction of a shell of what it is today.

Verio loves to host porn. Their rates are still too high to look at them directly to host porn. I have had quite a few people ICQ me about smaller amounts of bandwidth (500 mb and below) and I had to tell them that I think they would be better off with companies like Like Whoa & IsPrime. Verio still doesn't offer good porn prices in those amounts.

If you need the big amounts and only the big amounts contact me. I'm not a hosting company so I can't do anything for small accounts but hopefully the savings I can pass along from my relationship end up being passed along too. (hint hint)
