Sounds like someone was spamming & by accident they pulled the wrong server. Most hosting companies kill servers after a few complaints. Alot of spammers hide behind the "I RUN A FREEHOST" excuse....not saying this is the case, but i can see why they pulled a server.

Don't have any experience with rackshack, but i have heard no "good comments" about them recently.

ControlThy 08-27-2002 09:31 AM

Who is using RACKSHACK anyway?

Ouch man....I read that whole thing. I'll stay clear of them. Have you found new hosting?

damac 08-27-2002 10:28 AM

I don't see any big deal? All hosts I have every been with have problems some times. Rack shack is huge and has experienced growing pains like many.

I still have yet to have 15 minutes of downtime on my server I have had for 4+ months.

I think in the end they admit mistakes and do the right thing. I'm sure somebody is gonna have a horror story once in a while, but again most hosting companies do.

You just need a tech that knows what he is doing. :winkwink:

Our tech makes those deds stand up and sing. :thumbsup

ANYone that says they have a hosting company and has never experienced a problem is either:

new
small
lying
lucky SO far

Our technology is no where near advanced enough to prevent problems from springing up, be it a failed HD or a router, whatever. All you can do is try to have a backup in place and spare parts on hand.

You know what dude? You're a COMPLETE moron. First of all, SHOW ME a hosting company that is so fucking perfect that NEVER EVER made a mistake. Second, you ARE the admin. It doesnt matter whether you or your clients or EVEN a hacker breaks in and uses your server for SPAM. YOU are responsible. If you can't handle the responsibility, then you dont need to host others.

You probably pay about 100 bucks a month for this server, Did you want a fucking tech support team to move in next door to your house and walk up with your ticket on a Golden Platter?

So you had a bad experience, obviously you have gotten many complaints. I would have removed your account and banned you from ever becoming a member again. And you werent exactly Mr. Nice Guy to the abuse guy, so i wouldnt complain about him being rude.

It's people like you, that go around posting their worthless problems on boards to make someone look bad, that makes it hard for people to trust other companies. Everyone has had some sort of problem with hosting. Everyone!

Anyways, I have 11 servers, and 2 of them are with Rack shack. I have had issues, yes, but I knew what i was getting into. If you can't admin your own server properly, youre fucked. I recommend RackShack to ANYONE who knows how to admin a server and wants some high bandwidth for barely ANYTHING out of your pocket. Dont listen to this guy, he probably DID spam and denied it.

Anyways, if all you can afford is RackShack, I recommend getting another job.

I've heard more negative comments towards RS then positive ones.

Wilbo 08-27-2002 11:18 AM

I have a server at Rackshack and I set up another one for a buddy there. I have had no bad experiences with them in the 2 or 3 months I have been with them. I even set up a firewall on my buddy's server and accidentally locked myself out. The rackshack tech did an interactive reboot for me in less than a half hour and disabled the firewall so I could get in there and fix it. I don't host important stuff there, but if you need cheap bandwidth, that's the place to go. A dedicated server and 400 gig for $100, gotta love that :-)

Do you post every good experience you have with your host? Barely anyone does. your comment isnt fair and doesnt make sense.

Fletch XXX 08-27-2002 11:19 AM

I have mentioned good things about the host I use several times on this msg board when the topic has come up.
Threads about hosting are very common and many people post good or bad experiences in these threads.

Shoplifter 08-27-2002 12:18 PM

RS is not for the inexperienced. If you know Linux well and can read instructions you will be ok. We have servers there and have been totally pleased with them.

Quality man, just chill out. Let the fuckers say whatever they want. They don't know your personal situation with the techs there. That whole 1 hour for reboot and then he sites some bullshit about how "good thing we're in the new data center, in the old one it would take 24-48 hours for a reboot" really made me laugh too. Let the beggars beg, man...

Hey man I put in a word for ya.. but then again everyone makes mistakes from time to time, just so long as it gets sorted out asap!

I do think the pulling of your client's server to get your attention was assinine, a quick email saying "This is tne 2nd time we have detected spam from so-and-so, if it is not corrected within 24 hours the server will be pulled" or something like that would have been more appropriate and would have taken all of 2 minutes.

Libertine 08-27-2002 03:37 PM

Pulling a server "to get your attention" has got to be the lamest excuse for a mistake I have ever heard. Everyone can make mistakes or have technical problems, however, how you deal with them is the thing that counts most. Apparently, RS didn't deal with them quite so well.
