Bit torrent software - How do they get paid?

Lots of talk on how to shut these guys down. Well maybe it is a software issue. If they are doing it for free, we start a campaign saying they have spyware. IF they imbed ads, we go after those folks. Once it is unprofitable to make the software this will slow up the process fast.

why not just create hundreds of thousands of fake files that piss people off?

but in all reality, bittorent controls over 35% of the internets traffic, so what we are talking about is an almost impossible task

fris 06-06-2007 04:10 AM

all of it is open source

budz 06-06-2007 04:34 AM

they turn you into their botnet

I do not believe this stat. 35% seems way to high.

According to an anonymous poll conducted here on GFY, more than 82% of us have said they have been using torrents/p2p one or another way.

Why the fuck we rant over torrents and sharing then?

Don't tell me its only 18% of us who are bitching over this topic every other day.

Isn't that we are too much of dual-standard? If we use p2p/torrents its OK, if surfers use and kick our stomach indirectly we cry .. :disgust

you will never stop it.
trackers make money from either donations (private) or ads.
all client software is either open source or free.
millions of people are already using it.

Dopy 06-06-2007 05:46 AM

You get your latest copies of Adobe Creative Suite one day and then whine about torrent sites killing adult the next. Get fucking out of here, the hypocrisy level is way too high.

P2P is here to stay, the only solution is to work with it. As for the idea of flooding with garbage, try it and watch what happens LOL.

Manowar 06-06-2007 05:47 AM

most torrent sites are funded by ads, the clients are usually done open source

The RIAA has been battling p2p for years with no real impact even after investing millions.

I remember when discussions like this were about TGP's like the hun. My first run in with the hun was when he put my AVS site backdoor as his #1 listing costing me thousands in bandwidth. Now we pay him for those same spots.

I have been consulting with P2P Ads to help them improve their bit torrent strategies and together we have worked with some site and content owners to help them monetize this new untapped traffic source.

Imagine having galleries that float around the p2p networks at very little cost compared to be 1-to1 bandwidth cost you might incur now on gallery hosting.

If you can't beat em, join em, there are ways ;)

Im also interested in speaking with you about this

Brad Gosse 06-06-2007 08:29 AM

Anyone who wants to chat about p2p strategies can feel free to ICQ me 137 202 998.

I should warn you in advance this is for big budgets only. I am putting a small number of $10-25k campaigns together this week if anyone is interested in serious p2p exposure.

RawAlex 06-06-2007 09:01 AM

P2P won't go away. There is a solid core of users that would do this stuff not matter what, they aren't motivated by money.

The current explosion on the P2P market is search sites, locators, and "seekers". These sites are packed with ads (almost exclusively from a very few adult companies) and they are run because they are profitable. Little bandwidth, little maintenance, and an endless supply of fresh content served up every minute.

Distributing files, specifically branding material and hoping for an audience to buy into it and buy the rest of the site is an interesting concept, but marginal. Once the hardcore people find out about your site, it is only a short time before full site rips will be out there killing your product.

Give a sample to a theif, and he will figure out how to steal the rest.
