Best hosting for pure storage/bandwidth?
I'm looking for a host just to serve static content -- no php or anything else dynamic needed -- so I'm purely looking for the best GB/$ ratio. The only other thing I care about is that they have a decent history/reputation/etc.

i would be willing to trade some bandwidth for traffic

The one thing I forgot to mention was how MUCH I needed, sorry about that.
Right now I need almost nothing, I'm just starting out. But I think I can scale my site much better with a lower cost for hosting by putting the images and whatnot on a beefy, cheap host, and hosting the actual site on my main host (whom I like feature- and service-wise, but they're not so cheap on storage/bandwidth). So basically, I want something pretty cheap to start with that'll allow me to move up over time. Thanks! |

Hey there, Mullah, sounds like they've got you covered, but here's something I ran in to over time and maybe the guys in the thread can explain this better than me but: How big of a pipe do you need? How will the servers throttle your bandwidth when it spikes in a few minutes? It's not an issue at first, but as you grow, it becomes more important. I'm not talking about the total gigabytes of bandwidth you are allotted per month. I'm referring to this situation: You got a fairly big, high-quality movie file on your site, say 50 megabytes, and the movie is 10 minutes long. Say 300 people all click that link within a five minute period. What happens? Does everyone downloading the movie, regardless of their connection speed, suddenly get dropped to a terribly horribly slow download speed? That's where the size of the bandwidth pipe comes in to play. That's the throttle on the bandwidth. As your site grows, keep it in mind. People who pay for a blazing fast Internet connection at their home, don't want your site to slow them down.
Good luck. Kesey Seven |
