Old rock lovers

I got a question to anyone who knows old/classic rock.. theres a song I heard a longggg time ago, it always stayed in my head, but I have no clue who sings it or the name of the song, it sounds somethign like led zepplin..
it starts off with a weird harmonica like solo while the guy is singing something about someone leaving him..
like I said, its a long time I haven't heard this song.. anyone have any ideas?
Thanks
Shaun

Need MORE of the lyrics!

to lock it in better.

But Neil Young is known for his use of the harmonica...

if you can recall 2,3 words i'll guess it

btw, another great song is When a Blind Man Cries from Deep Purple

If you're leaving close the door.
I'm not expecting people anymore.
Hear me grieving, I'm lying on the floor.
Whether I'm drunk or dead I really ain't too sure.

Also.. when I mean old rock.. i mean like 60's and 70's...

asuna 08-26-2002 08:11 PM

And udder thing I remeberd... just incase you didn't figure it out, its not a 'happy' song... like I said, i think its about someone leaving this person.. perhaps death the way it sounded...
still no clue?

chodadog 08-26-2002 08:12 PM

hehe, i just downloaded A horse with no name by America..
I love old rock, but i haven't got a clue what you're talking about :winkwink:

asuna 08-26-2002 08:18 PM

I have it... I can even play it... duh..
:P
but still.. i need THAT song..
another thig i just remebered.. he sings slowly after the harmonica solo, and then he starts to sing LOUD and thats when the drums and everything else kicks in....
I listedn to shitloads of led zepplin a few days ago... its not them, unless I missed that ONE song....

Ummm... well that timeframe fits me well. :1orglaugh And I have always liked that period of music as well. Maybe because I grew up with that.

Find a site that has clips of Neil Young, he did alot of the sadder sounding songs. And that harmonica thing fits too... But I'm not sure about the Led Zep sound to him. I don't feel like hauling out the vinyl to go thru them and the old man won't turn my stereo back around so I can get the to the turntable right now. :(

asuna 08-26-2002 09:01 PM

It doesn't sound like Neil Young...
like I said... it sounds like Led zep... nothing with banjo's like neil young...

PornoDoggy 08-26-2002 09:03 PM

Well, Niel Young is definitely 60s and 70s ... could be him ... I could probably help you if you could come up with more lyrics. Music is about the ONLY thing I remember from back then ...
:D

Im gonna look for the tape later tonight, but i doubt i'll find it.. also theres a guy that speaks in french over it (i heard it on a comedy show from JMP a lonnggg time ago)

Jamdin 08-26-2002 09:38 PM

Was the singer mumbling? Then it would be Bob Dylan since he used the harmonica too & most of his songs were depressing too.

It could be Deep Purple since a few of their songs had harmonica solos. The Guess Who had the harmonica too, I believe.

Without a little bit of the lyrics, it would be hard to find out the band or the name of the song.

I first heard the song on this guy doing an 8h comedy show, and at one point he was having his band do lil bits of music and telling the people what the song made him think of, i heard heard the first like 20seconds of it, and the gu was talking over the singer, so I don't really remeber what the singer said..
*thinks hard*
forget the crying part..
maybe its something to do with bed or sleeping...
maybe asking why he's sleeping alone, and why teh girl isn't there with him?

SOrry, but thats all I can remeber for now. :(

mika 08-26-2002 10:57 PM

Led Zeppelin's Dyer Maker

Oh, oh-oh-oh-oh-oh, you don't have to go-oh, oh-oh-oh-oh
You don't have to go-oh, oh-oh-ah-ah, you don't have to go

I, I-I-I-I-I, all those tears I cry, I-I-I-I
All those tears I cry, oh, oh, uh, I, baby, please don't go

I don't remember if it has some kind of sound that is or sounds like harmonics, though

PornoDoggy 08-26-2002 10:57 PM

I thought of Dylan, but can't think of anything Dylan did that would've been confused with LZ. This has got me annoyed ...

Well it isn't Neil Young for sure..
He just doesnt sit on comedy shows and do "lil bits of music with his band" lol

asuna 08-26-2002 10:59 PM

btw mika,
its electric.. not acoustic

and it wasnt the original band..
it was the comedians band covering all the songs..

kmanrox 08-26-2002 11:00 PM

i think TheSpacebulldog fancies any type of rock he can get

Well, I'm out. Led Zeppelin, Neil Young, Dylan etc big boys just don't use comedians bands hehe

Probably some local karaoke singer

asuna 08-26-2002 11:08 PM

no, im telling you..
this is a great song dammit!
its fucking pissing me off so much that I cant hear it in full!
lol

asuna 08-27-2002 08:23 AM

no one else knows?

SpaceAce 08-27-2002 08:47 AM

Well, my firt thought was "Heart of Gold", but...

How do you even know the original had harmonica in it if the comedians band did it? Maybe it was changed.

Anyway, my second vote would be for something by The Guess Who, like "No Sugar Tonight" or "Crying" but I can't remember if they have harmonica at the very beginning. Or, even "American Woman" but in that case he is telling her to go away, not crying about her being gone.
