This is old news but just saw it. She grossed a Billion on the whole deal.

WiredGuy 06-04-2007 04:02 PM

She grossed a billion or the publisher did? I have a feeling its the publisher that did that billion.

The one-time single mom on welfare is the brains behind Harry Potter, one of the most successful book franchises in history. The film series--from which Rowling enjoys a cut of royalties and merchandising--has also proven astoundingly successful, with the total gross for the four films already released topping $3.5 billion. Rowling is the only career author on Forbes' Billionaires list.

Nobody has created that kind of quality Entertainment for kids in a long time.

Good for her. A good portion of the 1st book was written on napkins (because she couldn't afford paper much less a pc to type on) from a restaurant where she would go drink a cup of coffee. She literally went from nothing at all to being one of the wealthiest women in the World.

abyss_al 06-04-2007 05:00 PM

good for her... great stories! great movies! :thumbsup:thumbsup

WiredGuy 06-04-2007 05:47 PM

slapass 06-04-2007 08:08 PM

It is really amazing for an author to do this. I wonder how Michael Crighton has done?

GatorB 06-04-2007 08:20 PM

Considering just 4 movies have grossed $3.5 BILLION worldwide and another 3 movies to go. She's probably under paid.

Kevin Marx 06-04-2007 08:53 PM

Sarah_Jayne 06-05-2007 02:14 AM

It is actually nice to see hard work rewarded.

Fap 06-05-2007 04:02 AM

She would be on the richest peoples list..
But she is worth more than Martha Stewart!

Jennifer Lopez is rank 9? She's my neighbor haha

He's been a best seller for 3 decades, so while he doesn't have a billion, don't feel sorry for his $100 million ass!:thumbsup

Spudstr 06-05-2007 06:17 AM

Considaring she was broke/going on welfare when she wrote the books.. Great job for her!

TBrown 06-05-2007 06:23 AM

that whole Harry Potter story is a mix and copy paste of other stories/legends/etc...
still she rocks

testpie 06-05-2007 06:36 AM

I used to like her books, but as a person she strikes me as a cunt. I once went to get a book signed with her, and after waiting for hours, she just took it off me without looking, signed it and threw it back without saying shit.

Seeing as I'm paying towards your fortune the least you could have done was to fucking look at me.

Quite an example of knowing your strengths and weaknesses.

$1.000.000.000 US. Wow, I just had to put it down in numbers.

And guess who gets the finger? the people telling everybody that reading is dead bacause of gameconsoles and the internet. haha

Big up JK, you go girl :thumbsup

sniperwolf 06-05-2007 12:02 PM

Phoenix 06-05-2007 12:04 PM

who here wants to write a book now..lol

JP513 06-06-2007 08:54 PM

I do. It's called:

GFY: A novel of the internet.:1orglaugh

Drake 06-06-2007 09:03 PM

I haven't read any of her books or seen any of the movies but it must be a pretty exciting story for kids. Awesome for her. I almost never read fiction.

Books, now that's one industry that doesn't seem to have been hurt to any great extent by the internet. I still buy books and it seems many others do too.

Doctor Dre 06-06-2007 09:17 PM

First thread I've seen arround here where people aren't hating.

tony286 06-06-2007 09:31 PM

She is truly amazing.

selena 06-06-2007 09:35 PM

That's a great series. I need to go back and re-read it so I can refresh my memory to read the new one.

TSGlider 06-06-2007 09:48 PM

Wouldn't call them great works of literature, but here's to anyone who can get rich writing novels in 2007.
