Established pornography business is in decline ? and the Internet is responsible

The online availability of free or low-cost photos and videos has begun to take a fierce toll on sales of X-rated DVDs. Inexpensive digital technology has paved the way for aspiring amateur pornographers, who are flooding the market, while everyone in the industry is giving away more material to lure paying customers.
Quote:

?People are making movies in their houses and dragging and dropping them? onto free Web sites, said Harvey Kaplan, a former maker of pornographic movies and now chief executive of GoGoBill.com, which processes payments for pornographic Web sites. ?It?s killing the marketplace.?

The spread of high-speed Internet access promised even further growth. Instead, faster connections have simply allowed people to download free movies more quickly, and allowed amateur moviemakers to upload their creations easily.

"free", "low-cost", "inexpensive", "giving away" - sounds like the only way to go is to offer something exclusive, innovative and... harder to rip and post on torrent sites, so paying users would actually have a reason to join and stay.

I LOL'd. Yeah, tin foil and a wide variety of couches is what gets 'em excited.

if the only thing you have to set you apart from other sites are the amount of videos and the price of the membership, you will end up failing. You have to provide something the surfer cant get anywhere else (or as easy at least)

Look at what Brazzer and Bangbros do - DONT copy it, but let it inspire you to think differently

The DVD porn business is it's own worst enemy. We have gone from major companies have one to two releases a month to having one to two releases per day. The sheer volume of content they are producing and attempting to sell means that sales per title drop all the time. It use to be that a good porn movie would sell tens of thousands of copies. Now that is a rare exception for a truly spectacular seller, the rest are around 1 thousand copies per title (which means income is very low).

The meat grinder approach, the huge volume, doesn't do the industry any favors, and online porn is part of that grinder.

Everything in life, including porn has it's ups and downs. DVD sales are down, but I'm sure that many other ways to market porn are on the rise. As with pretty much every other industry the market is constantly changing. I got into this business thinking that guys will always need porn in one form or an other and this means that someone has to produce it. :D

I read the article earlier this morning. If you think it's only the death fo the DVD companies that's coming think again. Net porn is on the chopping block as well.

The more traditional pornographic film companies are not giving up, of course. They say they have an answer to the new competition: quality.
