How often do you change your keyboard?

I am taking a new one for a whirl today. I tend to get somewhat attached to them and it takes me ages to get a new one. How often do you change yours?

AM Jeff 06-01-2007 01:59 AM

My cordless keyboard is about 7-8 years old and still going strong.
I even got pissed one time coding and threw it up against a wall.
I just popped the keys back and in went back to work..lol

Godsmack 06-01-2007 02:03 AM

somehow my keyboards break every 1.5 year or so..
past 4 years i broke 3.. all Logitech wireless keyboards.

Maybe it's time to buy another brand

Violetta 06-01-2007 02:07 AM

way to seldom... wish I did it once a year!

HighEnergy 06-01-2007 02:13 AM

When they get hard to clean. Or the first major coffee spill, which ever comes first :)

AM Jeff 06-01-2007 02:17 AM

Then it's amazing that mine still works.
I have spilled everything on it and looks rough.
Food, coffee, tea, soda..you name it.

Andiz 06-01-2007 02:30 AM

Only when I buy a new computer.

Cleaned my current one for the first time in 3 years last week......you don't wanna know how it looked like :1orglaugh:1orglaugh

ServerGenius 06-01-2007 02:41 AM

Not often enough. 2 keyboards on 2 computers have been dying while I am typing lately :Oh crap Like you, I get attached as well.

uno 06-01-2007 04:47 AM

I only replace them when the space bar stops working.

You Forgot Poland 06-01-2007 04:49 AM

About one every 2 - 3 months.

When too much food and cola makes it impossible to use.

JamesK2 06-01-2007 04:57 AM

I haven't changed mine for years... I bet it's full of all kinds of nasty shit.

Peaches 06-01-2007 05:08 AM

It has to completely curl up in a ball and die before I change it for a desktop. I had one I kept moving and moving and someone used it and pointed out approximately 10 of the keys were worn out so you couldn't tell what they were.

With laptops, I replace when I spill something and fry it, or get a new laptop.

But I still have all my old desktop keyboards. I have no idea why I'm saving them, but they still work :)

Scott McD 06-01-2007 05:17 AM

I've had this one for years.

I'll take a pic and show you the state of it... :1orglaugh

Elixir 06-01-2007 05:43 AM

webair 06-01-2007 06:42 AM

ya 2-3 months for me but i keep it clean in the interim

RawAlex 06-01-2007 06:44 AM

It seems to go about every 2 or 3 years for me on my main system, and my video editting system has been upgraded twice but still has the same keyboard after 5 years.

I use natural keyboards from microsoft, and they are generally pretty well made and don't seem to break easily.

markz08 06-01-2007 06:46 AM

hhhmmm, every month... coz i'm a hard typer... hahahah

Ravage 06-01-2007 06:58 AM

Very seldom for me as well. I switched from my first keyboard when I upgraded from my 486 since the PS/2 ports started rocking the pentium age. I may have switched one keybrd from my Pentium Pro to AMD64. From there, I went to this board below over the last two years

Yeah thats what I'm using. I will switch when they come out with a similar model with more options, or brighter lighting under the keys..
It rocks.:thumbsup

Humpy Leftnut 06-01-2007 08:04 AM

I use this one and love it, the wrist pad is padded, it's pretty quiet, just great kb.

every 3-4 years

Linguist 06-01-2007 08:11 AM

i've been using my current keyboard since 2000

Martin3 06-01-2007 08:16 AM

When ever it's time to clean it I usually just throw it away. At $20-30 each it's not worth the effort, got 2 spares in my closet now still in the box. :1orglaugh

D 06-01-2007 08:20 AM

I used to be quite a clutz, and go through one once a year or so.... after spilling two beverages on it.

I'd usually take it apart, and put it thriough the dishwasher for the first spill, letting it dry thoroughly before reassembling. That really works!

The second spill always did it in, though.

One time I spilled a glass full of '95 Raymond Cabernet Reserve in a keyboard. That hurt.

But since then, I've tried to be a bit more careful, leave my old clutzy ways behind me, and picked up this one:

It's lasted me about a year now so far - still as good as brand new.

OldJeff 06-01-2007 08:21 AM

using the same keyboard through 3 computers now, and thinking about another computer switch

alby_persignup 06-01-2007 08:41 AM

I'm still using my old logitech keyboard, I'm not sure if I'm going to replace it with new ones. wow! that's a cool keyboard.

Sarah_Jayne 06-01-2007 09:34 AM

In all honesty, if somebody hadn't given me this one I would probably still used the other one until it died on me or got up and walked out of the house on its own.

Elli 06-01-2007 10:00 AM

I hate changing keyboards! I love this one that has since been discontinued, so I'll use it til it dies. It's a logitech UltraX that has a super low profile and nicely clicky keys.

webcrawler 06-01-2007 01:40 PM

2 years and would still prefer the wired ones.

ADL Colin 06-01-2007 01:41 PM

I get a new one with every notebook.

whomework 06-01-2007 01:46 PM

I hardly ever change my keyboards, but looking at some of the pics in this post makes me want to go out tonight and get a new one.

needlive 06-01-2007 09:19 PM

LOLOLOLOLOL, my keyboard look almost like DeadFidels board minus the cigarette stains, its about 10 years old now. Its noname, but system see's it as a Qwerty. Never heard of any brand like that, but this board HAS been dropped, has seen coffee, and LOL yes it has been under a few girls before and its still running like new. I dont want to get a new one:):) It has the best feel and my fingers dont slip thanks to the goo on it:)

Masterchief 06-01-2007 09:23 PM

i stick my keyboard in the dishwasher when it gets dirty, does the trick.

Spunky 06-01-2007 09:26 PM

Until it dies..they are so dirt cheap nowadays
