Bah, and I bet you thought Bill Gate was the richest man just because Forbes and Fortune magazines said so:1orglaugh

slapass 06-01-2007 05:03 AM

How cool is that!!! Bill has held the title too long. is stock has been very stagnant.

_Rush_ 06-01-2007 05:12 AM

Slim has business all over Latin America, including big markets like Argentina and Brazil. His money doesn't come only from Mexico, even if this market alone is extremely profitable.

whooo hooo what do you think he will do with all that $$

TheDoc 06-01-2007 06:47 AM

It's funny how news/media puts $50B and them as richest people in the world.. When not one of them has $50B. We all know the media chooses who they talk about and feature, this is just one example... Plenty of people in the world have more than $50B - In Cash/Gold, ect.. But since they live in Middle East our news isn't going tell us Americans we aren't the richest.

Rochard 06-01-2007 06:56 AM

What an interesting article to read really. In a country where forty percent of the people live in poverty, this man is buying up nearly all of Mexico - Hospitals, oil and gas stations, the telephone companies, power companies, department stores.......

From the article.....

"From the minute many Mexicans are born - perhaps in one of Slim's Star Médica Hospitals - they begin putting money in his pocket. They use electricity carried by Condumex brand cables, drive on roads paved by the CILSA construction company firm and burn fuels pumped from Swecomex drilling platforms. They communicate through Telmex phone lines, smoke Slim's tobacco, which is sold under the Marlboro brand, and shop at Sears Roebuck of Mexico, a subsidiary of his huge Carso Group. "

Who would have thunk it.

That's some serious power of the country and the people. The so called problem with emigration in the U.S. must be because we are talking to the Mexican Government when we should be talking to this guy.

yeah but that wealth is usually spread amongst the whole family which can include dozens of "princes". Not to mention those oil shieks dont generally report their actual wealth to forbes.

Believe you me .. as i am from the middle east, I do not buy into the propaganda :winkwink:

I know there are many people who are much wealthier but they don't have news articles about them so it does not make for a fun post LOL

That is a pretty prejudiced statement when you get right down to it...

He is richest in wealth - that means dollars, pesos, euros and yes even salt...

Yo Adrian 06-01-2007 10:50 AM

Cheers for Carlos the slim . . .

he already does that by buying those companies and making money with it.
Though people pay for it he's providing people jobs and incomes and provided
services that the people need. Those people spend they're money which
makes other companies and people make money too, etc, etc. Yes he's
making money of it but that's not a bad thing, there's nobody who only
gives to charity if he didn't make money to be able to give away for charity.

people tend to forget that when they express their grief based on envy.
They don't tend to grasp how much rich people pay before they even
got to being rich. People should rather be happy for people that got
rich coz you know for sure they contributed a hell of a lot more to their
society than the poor. Yes the balance may not always be fair but you
can't blame the rich entirely for that, they just take advantages of the
possibilities presented and available to them.

They do have some influence to that but that's normal as that's what
they have paid for and makes sure they be able to keep paying for it
it's not money that comes out of the pockets of the people who haven't
contributed anything in the first place lol.

I'm quite sure he also gives back coz that's the only way he would ever
been able to get where he's now, nobody ever makes it that far by only
taking.....the only exception to that would be the IRS. :winkwink:

Why the hell did I even reply and wrote all this shit.....that's probably
the sign that tells me it's time to go to bed. :thumbsup

And the media has no way of knowing the personal fortune of some people.. wealthier than this guy...
