Error opening jpegs...please help!
I was combing through some old photos this morning and there are a few of them (about 10) that I cannot open in any program. Here is the error I get when trying to open one of them in Photoshop...
http://www.stubradley.com/pictures/jpeg_error.jpg Is there any way to salvage these photos? They are all raw files that had been taken straight from the camera and stored on CD. Any ideas? |
When you saw "raw" do you mean they were copied as-is from the camera, or they're actually in RAW format?

Here is a snapshot from explorer...

Put one up online so anyone who reads this thread can download it and try to open it with one of the apps on his/her computer - then they could tell you what program they used...

you using the new adobe design suite?
i've had the same problem i just restarted adobe and tried re-opening the images and it worked fine |
Alright here is one of the files:
http://www.stubradley.com/pictures/IMG_1735.JPG I have tried opening it in several different apps including two versions of Photoshop (5.5 and CS). I have heard that Adobe has a program that will fix images with corrupt markers, but cannot find anything like that. |
I'm no jpeg expert but I can't see the JFIF string anywhere in that file. There doesn't seem to be any sections that have all 00's or FF's, so the question is where did this apparently non-JPEG data come from?
Since there's also missing file information (eg the date stamp) it's possible the CD itself is corrupt. |
Jpeg Problems
there are two reasons for that:
1. cd is corrupted 2. the original file was saved using "progressive" in jpeg options, instead of "standard". |
Nero Showtime opened it without a problem. If you don't have this program, just change the file extension to mp3... I'm not joking. Very strange!

Holy crap... winamp plays the "picture" just fine after renaming...
