jesus christ! how do I get my icq contacts to show up as nicknames and not #'s?

im guessing right click alias doesn't work? lol

right click and click on info

Well, it's called pidgin now - upgrade to the latest version

but right click on the name and select alias, which can be changed

of course I right clicked you all...LOL

all that does is give me an external box that shows the info...then I have to go in and click alias and change it out by hand

there is no way to say "update all nicks" or something?

I have like 300 contacts here that are ALL numbers....kind of annoying

right, that is pretty tedious to do with 300 contacts

hmm, you shouldnt have to set the alias. usually clicking Get Info pulls up their already set nickname

If I add them to my list they show up as their username on icq.com.

yeah, it is doing that one some, but not all

what the fuck though, I shouldn't have to sit here for hours right clicking on all these numbers and clicking GET INFO

there shuld be a central setting somewhere that I check and it says "use nickname"

this isn't new adds, this is me switching from trillian to pidgin/gaim

I usually use deadAIM but have been using gaim the past few weeks. I can't stand it for AIM, can't imagine how bad it is for multi-messengers.

why are you swithcing ? isn't trillian better ?

it really isn't that bad, WAY better than the new Trillian Astra

I rarely use AIM though..

never understood people that use AIM and don't use icq, or vice versa...it is the same thing now...hehe...you can even put icq #'s in the aim software and it will show up....not saying you are like that, just thinking out loud

trillian astra is garbage right now and I am getting sick of orphans...having 20 people show up 3-4 times each in my list is annoying as fuck

GAIM is good... once you get through the initial move into it and get everyones nick names showing, then new additions wont have the same problem.

For some reason it happens to be me too and I have to go through a lot of peoples names (not everyones though) and right click Get Info when I install it on a new PC.
