http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/18928656

I can't figure this thing out. It's interactive but why?

If a customer can't use it to jerk off to how can it sell on the open market? :winkwink:

fusionx 05-30-2007 07:05 AM

pornguy 05-30-2007 08:28 AM

Top secret??? What a stupid statment, when I saw something on discovery about that 5 months ago.

They showed the use of it in the movie with tom cruise, ( cant remember the name ) and then they also used it in the movie the island.

tony286 05-30-2007 08:53 AM

Instead of making interactive coffee tables, they should create a os that isnt a piece of shit. Also imagine how uncomfortable it would be to look at a coffee table for a couple of hours.

Semi-Retired-Dave 05-30-2007 08:57 AM

Very Cool...that's going to be one messy table.

They used this type of gimmick in the '97 version of Lost In Space and before that a couple dozen other movies and tv shows including Star Trek series.

If the platform could be elevated then fine, that prevents someone getting neckache from leaning over the damned thing.

Exactly.

Nothing is happening until there are 3D goggles web surfing. Goggles that can adjust the size of the screen to 40 ft high to 1 ft high.

There were several technologies that came out like that earlier in the decade but suddenly disappeared. hmmmmm.

_Richard_ 05-30-2007 09:34 AM

that's a pretty cool technology, but i don't see how they plan on replacing the current models

madawgz 05-30-2007 09:41 AM

whoa thats fucking insane

Kevin Marx 05-30-2007 09:57 AM

interesting, but gimicky and application specific.

tranza 05-30-2007 10:02 AM

Damn, that looks pretty cool indeed!!!

:)

Nathan 05-30-2007 10:40 AM

Doubt this will REPLACE computers, it will just be another type, I wouldn't mind that kind of desc, but would still want a keyboard and monitors on it and such... But hey, Surface would see that I put a monitor on it and add it to the config... same for a mouse and keyboard.. thats really the awesome new concept.

If they can really make it understand everything you put on it, or at least all enabled devices, this will be AWESOME.

Yes, the concept of multi-touch, multi-user screens has been around before, heck the iPhone has a multi-touch screen. But it has yet to become usable commercially, and it sounds like Surface is actually happening soon.

acctman 05-30-2007 10:49 AM

i want one, that would be cool.... allowing users to interact with a site buy using there hands

D 05-30-2007 10:49 AM

It's the next step, imho...

Not the mainstream model - certainly, but it'll lend way to more compact methods of expressing the technology in the future.... or set the stage for more integrated technologies of the same type.

Like they said - this is basically marketed toward retail partners like restaurants right now.

For one, I think it'd be a pretty nifty dining experience to have something like that set up as my dining table.

nnweb 05-30-2007 11:09 AM

cnet has a good demo video.

this thing looks awesome.
