Reality TV's new low?

A huge row has broken out over a reality game show by the makers of Big Brother which will see a terminally-ill woman choose a recipient for her kidneys.

It will show three seriously ill patients set out why they are most deserving of a life-saving kidney transplant.

The programme, to be shown in the Netherlands on Friday, has caused outrage among health campaigners and politicians.

They say The Big Donor Show, made by Dutch company Endemol, represents a new low in reality TV and should not be aired.

But the makers have defended the show, saying it is meant to highlight the difficulty of obtaining a kidney donor.

That's pretty sick! I thought Flavor of Love: Charm School Girls was the lowest in reality TV but I guess not!

Not that I support this program, but i do need to tell you guys this:

The show is made to draw the attention to becoming a donor. There's still too little donors and to many people die because of that.

This one time episode is also a tribute to the founder of the BNN network.
He died 5 years ago due to kidney problems he had been struggeling with his whole (short) life.

The government wastes millions on advertising and the effect is zero. I guess the plan of BNN is to shock the world by airing this. And i think it will have some effect.

it must be horrible to know that you are going to die if you can't have a transplant within 3 months.

Knowing that there's enough usefull organs around, but just a small part is available because they never told anybody they want to be a donor.

The best solution imho is to make everybody a potential donor by law. And the only way to dodge that, is to send them a letter that you don't want to be a ddonor. Now it's the other way around.

I must say that we live in a fucked up society if stupid reality shows became the only means to attract attention on such important and noble matters:disgust
