Epassporte and Mastercard, what's up?

I just tried loading my Epassporte account and next to my Mastercard it says "Not Currently Accepted". What's up with that? Did I miss something? And why didn't Epassporte email me and say hey, we're not taking Mastercard anymore. :disgust

Ron2k1 05-28-2007 11:34 AM

Thank you Epassporte for helping to fuck up my day. Don't feel bad, you weren't alone in this endeavour as my webhost has done just as much, if not more, to fuck it up. =)

JuiceMonkey 05-28-2007 11:36 AM

was the issuing bank wells fargo?

After Shock Media 05-28-2007 11:39 AM

whats even worse is since its a MC it costs even more to load.

Seriously epass has some slight issues right now.

Ron2k1 05-28-2007 11:47 AM

I just called them, mastercard will not be an option anymore, only visa card and US checking account.

I don't have both of those

Whoo hoo good for you.

I have visa, mastercard ect. I have a few cards in there that are expired, and oh yeah you can not delete cards so its filled up. BTW my local bank (not a huge bank) blocked them, no more loads via cards, wires, ach and their owned atm's spit out the cards.

dready 05-28-2007 05:38 PM

So, no Mastercard, no Wells Fargo, no Chase. What's left?

Nicky 05-28-2007 05:48 PM

that kinda sucks

rowan 05-29-2007 08:40 AM

This is a pretty significant change and deserves a bump. It's not looking good. :(

fetishblog 05-29-2007 10:35 AM

Still no comment from Epassporte and still no message to their members saying hey, we're not allowing you to load your accounts with Mastercard anymore.

JP513 05-29-2007 10:53 AM

Yeah that sucks no mastercard!:love2suck

ePassporte has elected to stop accepting MasterCard. We were not fined. We were not terminated. We were not in any fine program. We were not over any ratios. We simply decided that we could not afford to accept MasterCard at this time due to our risk management criteria.

Without going into excruciating detail, you may be interested to know that Secure Code, MasterCard?s equivalent of Verified by Visa, has proven to be ineffective, in our opinion and along with other issues related to cardholder data security, MasterCard is not an acceptable product for our company.

The Secure Code program, as you may know, gives us as a merchant, protection from chargebacks when the cardholder enters the 3 digit CAVV number from the back of their card, on our join form. This system works very well with Visa (Verified by Visa), however MasterCard?s system is returning ?format error? responses on over 50% of these transactions.

We do not know if this is a MasterCard system error; however we do know that it is not an error on our part or on the part of any of our vendors. We tested and certified our file format, and in fact we get some transactions approved. Possibly this is a programmed response to avoid the financial pitfalls to MasterCard of so called ?friendly fraud?.

What ever the reasons for the above, we simply can?t accept this sort of risk. Moreover, MasterCard is not a very large portion of our business. While we have tens of thousands of MasterCard cardholder?s that may no longer use their MasterCard, thus far we have seen a very large percentage of those attempting to load with MasterCard switching to Visa or ACH.

The sky is not falling here, or anywhere on ePassporte-land. The vast majority of people on this board are paid by Sponsor Programs and do not have any load cards on file.

We regret any inconvenience that this decision has caused any of our valued customers. However, we feel that ePassporte is a stronger and more stabile company because we make choices that may adversely impact our revenue, yet keep us in business for the long term.

As we approach 5 years of successful and uninterrupted operations, we would like to thank all of you that support, enjoy and use ePassporte. We will be here for the long term, regardless of what others may say.

As is our practice, we will not post any further on this issue, as our position has been explained. If you have other questions please email your ePassporte Account Rep.

Thanks.

C

Well, actually for some of your customers, the sky is falling because of this ...

and ... uninterrupted ? Well, sorry, but that is utter bullshit. There have been a HELL of a lot of interruptions over the time I've had the card.

Sometimes machines spitting the cards out, sometimes the service not giving accurate balance info, etc .... this stuff is frequent.

Good luck, but ePassporte is not likely to last for a long time.

rowan 05-30-2007 12:49 PM

Chris, thank you for the explanation. I'm just curious why it only came after someone discovered this change by accident. I logged into my epass account and checked new emails but there appears to be zero notification of this change by epass.

Notice on the Epassporte website would have been nice...

Not that it would have effected me... Why would I want to load a debit card with a credit card in the first place?

The beauty is when I use my Epassporte to load my Paypal account. For some reason I enjoy that...

PayPal is so fucking brain dead.. Thank God for Epassporte!

Phoenix 06-12-2007 11:03 PM

i love my epassporte

kudos on getting in on this.

epassporte is a visa card..it just makes sense to have a visa for it.

Nysus 07-07-2007 10:35 AM

I know some Mastercard Secure Codes have a beginning 0 digit that some people may exclude (don't enter), or perhaps your coding doesn't hold onto it and only sees it as 2 digits being submitted?

It's pretty ridiculous / bad business you guys didn't work with MasterCard to try to find the problem, even if it was on their end; just lazy or something?

You'd imagine you would hopefully have a good connection and contacts at Mastercard to fix that problem ASAP?
