How much do you pay for unlimited internet access from home in US?

I heard there are no truly unlimited 5Mbps ADSL access for $30-$60 monthly in Canada. Because it's usually limited to 60Gb of bandwith monthly.

Is it better in US? Are there any truly 5mbps lines with unlimited bandwith? And how much do they cost.

Just curious. Thanks.

Wizzo 05-28-2007 09:12 AM

Unlimited as in well, unlimited. here the internet is typically labeled as "always on". I guarantee you that if you did 100% utilization for 2 months straight you would get disconnected.

Ah.

Actually they could only do that if they changed their product offering. I can bet you that I use more bandwidth that probably anyone on the "loop" for my neighborhood cable hands down. Yet nothing happens, and I hog a lot of bandwidth.

The reason I was asking is because in some countries, you do not get "unlimited" you are throttled in the amount of data you can get a month/day, etc. That is not unlimited obviously.

Also in your wording, you said we (being US) do not have unlimited. But in most areas we do. There is no governor, or throttle. So I was looking to what your definition was there chief.

Yeah, this is what I call "unlimited" and why I asked about it. I heard that a usual limit for unlimited (huh) internet is around 60-80 gigs. But watching utube can consume 2-3 gigs daily. Listening to radio, watching IPTV this all easily can wind up the incoming bandwith to 100-200 gigs per month.

That's why it is interesting for me to know are there any TRUE internet ADSL or cable providers in Canada(especially) & in US which will not disconnect you if you consume at least 100 gigs of bandwith. Thanks.

I figured this was what you were asking. Hence my questions about defining "unlimited".

trust me the limits are there though..they're just not advertised and you probably won't find out until your service has been disconnected.

here's a letter from comcast explaning it sort of:

Yeah, i suppose its special..but it's what i've been paying the past 3 years. I just call in every 6 months and threaten to cancel saying that i'm switching to dsl/satelite or that i've lost my job and can't afford to pay as much, just be creative and you can get lower prices as well.

Sosa 05-29-2007 05:17 PM

7mbit down, 768 or something upload for $35/month

I have heard about that shit with Comcast, especially in metro areas over the years.

I've NEVER heard of it with Charter though and I've had them for like 6+ years. If I received any shit like that, I would just go to their high end business packages, and be done with it.

BVF 05-29-2007 06:23 PM

now around 40 bucks but once I move on Friday, it's FREE multiple high speed wireless connects! Whoohoo!!
