getting a cat??
 

hey guys,
my apartment complex doesnt allow dogs, besides dogs are high maintenance, so im thinking of getting a kitten...

any guys here own cats/kittens and what are your thoughts?

im an animal lover. always been. just been living in apartments that dont allow pets..

if i get a pet its because i want to.. ill take care of him/her like he/she is my own baby ;)

Cats are awesome, just remember they own you and not the other way around... and get it fixed whether it's a male or female. Un-neutered males will spray your furniture, unspayed femailes can breed like crazy...

All animals are high maintenance. Litter box, scratching stuff, they need a lot of attention. We have 6... full time job really.

I have 2 cats(one of which is a kitten) and 4 ferrets. Cats are great animals and fairly low maintenance. Tons of personality. I can't promise you the cat will keep you company. That varies wildly depending on the cats personality. Some will never leave you alone, others will never pay attention to you, but most will be loving only on their terms when they want to.

We have several cats.. besides being endlessly entertaining, they always seem to know when someone is hurt or depressed and snuggle up to them.

Cat chasing a bear... One of my cats drove off a hawk last year. They chase dogs out of my yard on a regular basis...

Dogs = picking up their shit, more care and attention, more expensive, louder, aren't allowed in most rental homes, smell worse.

for sure. cats want respect. I love my cat but I wouldnt recommend getting one unless you have a garage or some "not inside the house" place to put the litter box. It's just not cool having a shitbox in the house and if you plan on letting him out, he'll eventually get in fights with other animals and turn up hurt.

Cats are great in apartments. If you're not home a large part of the day, you might think about getting two at the same time so they keep each other company.

I'm down to 5 now from 8 a few years ago. All 5 that remain are Pixie Bobs.

Anna, I don't know what you mean! My cat Princess curls up against me and sleeps in bed with me early every morning, just like the cats in your photos. :-)

Before we got the other one, our cat used to sleep on me every night, now she rarely even comes to say good night :)

She sort of realized that "Hey, I'm not one of them - I'm a cat!" when she got a friend, and they love playing together, doing cat things, wrestling and chasing each other around the apartment. Not to mention licking each other :)

It might be different for a cat that's been the only cat for its whole life, but our cat had a friend for years, and after he died she just seemed slightly depressed. She's been her old happy self since we got Bob :)
