Bringing a dog on a flight

Has anyone ever brought a small dog on a flight before? I'm considering doing it tomorrow, I already paid the animal fee. It's a flight from long beach to JFK, a 5 hour flight.

Wondering if it's worth the trouble

Done it several times. Really easy process. The airline and security are always understanding when I take my dog.

thanks... do they ever let you take it out of the carrier after takeoff?

Not officially but I have taken mine out every time. Just put him under a blanket. We always carry him off in out arms too. No one really cares they all just want to pet him
Its real easy too. Last time we even got to cut the whole security line and go thru the disabled one lol

Ugh I have to fly International with 3 Rottweilers in July. They won't be in the cabin though.

I think you need paper work from the board of health.

Depends on the dogs mentality... If you think it will stress him/her out, then don't do it... One of my dogs is extremely cool and takes everything in her stride... I have taken her by helicopter loads of times... Another of my dogs is scared by the noise, and I would not even consider taking he anywhere near the pad..

Dog's are like people, some are up for it, some are not. It would be wrong to force a dog into doing something he/she is not happy about.

does anyone know if there are weight restrictions on letting dogs in the cabin? id love to take my dog on a plane, but wouldnt feel right about putting him in the cargo hold. he'd need to be in the seat next to me so i could keep him calm.

i think there is a 15lb limit ...cuz then it can fit under your seat

Alot of people bitch because they dont want the dog on the plane.

Most claim the dogs mess with their allergies ;-)

I was flying a few weeks ago when I heard this little bark coming from the girl next to me across the aisle. Right after the bark she would whisper something along the lines of "it's ok, it's ok. Sssshhhh, you can do this." After doing this a few times I was convinced the girl had tourettes since I had no idea that people brought their dogs on flights. I just figured I was in for a four hour tourettes fest. After doing this every 10 minutes or so for an hour, the girl reaches under her seat and pulls out some luggage with her ugly dog in it.

With that said, I've never flown with a dog, but some people do. If they are going to be annoying, you may want to get some tranquilizers from the vet.

Most airlines don't accept tranquilized pets. :2 cents:
