Best Social Networking Software

Yeah i know, youre gonna recommend going custom but what the hell....... if it performs a function the users wont fuss about that any more than they would the actual domain name your using.

So lets talk about whats for sale - any help greatly appreciated.

do you have experience with either of those? How do they fare vs. phpfox?

BigBen 05-24-2007 04:19 PM

I was advised against Alstrasoft software from people I trust...

"I would recommend not using any products from Alstrasoft. From experience, their products seem very buggy, incomplete, and just poorly coded. Also, their support often does not respond when you have issues with their scripts."

crockett 05-24-2007 04:38 PM

I came across these http://abk-soft.com/ was thinking of trying out the able space for a few sites I want to build. Scripts seem a bit pricey so I'd like to talk to someone whom has used their stuff before I bought.

The features look great however I dunno how well the scripts work.

Dolphin looks good at a glance. I think I'll try that one out. :)

Dolphin is terrible and I wouldnt touch alstrasoft either...

Pornwolf 05-24-2007 05:28 PM

Theres' tons of them. It would make sense to go with the one that is pre-made and has it's own support like A snap or a Ning. It will save you a lot of time and money in the constant custom coding you would have to do to keep it operational.

Do you have any recommendations for decent software already available?

Lance69 05-24-2007 07:02 PM

It was mentioned before but I like Phpfox.

everything.... it uses css layouts, which are a pain in the arse if you are planning on skinning it, the admin area is lacking, hell the whole script is lacking in useful features and to be honest they may say it was built for a production site and can handle thousands of members but I have serious doubts about it.

If you're looking for extremely high quality, and don't mind waiting about a month, drop me a line:

envexmatt (at) gmail.com

Development for it has already been funded by another client, so it'll be pretty cheap for you, especially considering the quality you're going to end up with. ;)

Dolphin is crap. Don't use it. Stay outta the social networking market :-D

shhhhh.... It's actually really good if you know how to code.

On joomlawebmasters.com I am using a plug-in called SocialBookmarkerBot for Joomla. As you can see on this article, I am now able to put that Digg button (that is live and updates to the Digg count on the actual Digg article, instantly) next to the article and at the bottom of the page there are buttons for a whole bunch more social bookmarking sites.

:thumbsup

jimbona 05-25-2007 04:56 AM

fris 05-25-2007 05:00 AM

Yea, its about as good as you can get out of the box... I think the admin funtions on it are a little lacking, but overall fairly decent. :pimp

Hey mate, nah nothing commercial, as far as desktop apps not much at all really. Tho did start a C# MySpace AI thingy awhile back that needs attention.

Been working mostly on PHP and Actionscript, even a bit of mainstream coding, music promo and stuff.

None of you guys have tried out this one that I posted? It has by far the most features I've ever seen in these kind of scripts. Chat, VOIP all video upload and everything under the sun. Not to mention it's the only one I've seen baised on Ajax.

btw they have two scripts one for a dating site and one for a youtube/myspace type site http://abk-soft.com/products_datingscripts.html

Let's talk. I'm working on a music based project. I have been hiring coders for several different things related to it over the past year. I'm just about all mainstream these days.

Had much success with your last commercial app. I'm always interested in what you have going on.
