whose seen donnie darko?

i tried watching the movie 2x times in the past but when it got to the part of the talking rabbit, i felt it was turning too goofy and i stopped it.

Then i saw Corys thread about movies that changed people a month or so ago (it was #1 or close to it), so last night, it was on and i watched the whole thing

amazing movie, everything clicked and made sense in the end, although the ending was sad and strange at the same time, but inspirational (SPOILER) where he gave up his life for some girl he had known only a few weeks and had a smile on his face when he did it

now its one of my favorites, anyone here see it?

karlm 05-24-2007 02:45 PM

I diddnt understand it :( lol

crockett 05-24-2007 02:46 PM

Can you believe Donny Darko grew up to become a gay cowboy.

Mohawk Steve 05-24-2007 02:48 PM

It's one of my favorite movies, the ending amazing.

Elli 05-24-2007 02:49 PM

Absolutely an amazing movie. It always creeps me out, but it's one of my favourite "thinky" movies.

Magalie 05-24-2007 02:51 PM

LOVED it !

Mr Steele 05-24-2007 02:52 PM

The director's cut fleshes out the story a bit better too, but really it's just all the bonus scenes from the original DVD added in... good movie BTW

Pete-KT 05-24-2007 02:52 PM

You need to watch the whole thing 3-4 times to fully understand it

DS250 05-24-2007 02:54 PM

i have the directors cut and it is very good it really explains a lot more of the story

one of my favorites.

The movie isn't about one concept, it supports many through the use of plot, isolated dialogs as well as visual symbols. Pay close attention to those that follow, those that preach and those that are.

Jman 05-24-2007 02:59 PM

It's a fantastic movie, defenitly one should have in their dvd collection.

triumph 05-24-2007 03:01 PM

I would rank that movie in my top 10 for sure, great movie that makes you think and you start to appreciate things around you.

Also the soundtrack is awesome for people who grew up in the 80's!

btw, that thread also caused me to rent "empire of the sun" (you may remember this ;) )

Duke's brother is a Fireman and was the Easter Bunny. He had the costume at his house, the eyes on it reminded me of Donny Darko. I told him to bang his girlfriend with the Rabbit head on.....lol

Have you watched Basketball Diaries yet?

fallenmuffin 05-24-2007 03:12 PM

It's a really amazing movie. Like Pete-KT said you should really watch it a few more times. You'll discover a lot of new shit each time you watch it.

We put a few guy friends in charge of renting the movies one night several years ago, and they came back with Donnie Darko and The Swimming Pool.... I'm not sure which one was worse....

frostyimpressions 05-25-2007 09:33 AM

Yeah, it's one of those movies you have to watch at least two times to really understand.
