CMS Carma vs. Sitedepth

i need a CMS what are you guys using and why?

Jakke PNG 05-23-2007 01:07 PM

I'm using sitedepth. Mainly because I don't like monthly fees..oh, and because I've used it for like 3 years, so I know it inside and out. :)

It's a resources hog though.

bizarredollars 05-23-2007 01:35 PM

We are using SiteDepth at the moment... It's not a bad product... But I feel we have outgrown it, so we will be trying out Carma in the near future on some new sites...

SiteDepth does do everything they say it does on their website... It really does make life easier - if all the features you need are listed on their website, then I would recommend you go for it as the cheaper option.

cattivo-3xeg 05-23-2007 01:58 PM

anybody using carma wanna comment

FelixFlow 05-23-2007 02:23 PM

i use sitedepth

LilBro 05-23-2007 02:27 PM

www.ThePaysiteCMS.com hands down #1

k0nr4d 05-23-2007 02:40 PM

I've used carma, needs a lil customization but when everything falls into place it fuckin' rocks.

Big_Red 05-23-2007 02:41 PM

I love sitedepth. Their support is outstanding, and the script does anything a site should need. And if it doesnt do it, they will write up a new plugin for ya. And at a very small charge. :) Love em'.

Yes, it's great.

The right CMS all depends on what you want to do with the site, especially with content rotation. Carma is very powerful and can handle a huge amount of members accessing the content. Organizing and setting up content rotation across multiple sites. It also uses smarty.

Cons: Something like $3500 to purchase or $120 a month to lease. Unless you are knowledgeable with templating, it will cost you extra to set up your site, and there do not seem to be alot of people that can do it. With any CMS, make sure you schedule and budget for this process.

For CMS's, there are Awiz, Sitedepth, Carma, MAS, Joomla. A few threads have been posted here on CMS's, just use the search function on the board to find out more.

The pricing seems a bit off to me. Not sure what anyone else thinks, but $30k for a CMS seems a bit out there.

:2 cents:

You don't mention much about what your specifications, budgets, etc etc, so this is a bit like posting: I need a car, which one?

As Marty [the ghost] points out above - CARMA is all powerful. Its knockout punch is in its templating engine [based on SMARTY]. You can do anything you want. Anything you can think of, it can handle.
From a content handling point of view, it does a great job.

On the other side of the fence you have SiteDepth. SD is to the point, and easier to get a handle on. Its templating system is less powerful, but with that said: if you can do HTML, you can do your own templates - which can't be said for CARMA (without a degree of ease anyhow)

They're in entirely different ballparks for cost and functionality, and you need to work out which one you want to head for.

There are other options as well, such as MAS from Mansion (which I haven't used so can't comment), and the round-robin of awiz etc (which I have, and can't recommend...)

Godsmack 05-23-2007 04:56 PM

MAS is great!

Mutt 05-23-2007 04:59 PM

all i know is i referred a friend to SiteDepth and he bought it and he hit me up today frustrated that he is having a tech problem and nobody is getting back to him about it.

if you're reading this SD - get with the program please, I don't like looking bad when I recommend a product.

Why pay all that money when Joomla plus just a little custom coding would give you EXACTLY what you want plus so much more more?

At least I'm not the only one who thinks it's crazy...unless of course it sucks my dick and gives a good rim job. Even then it still might be overpriced.

it's really good - it's meant for big budget DVD download sites - if u figure one of those sites is minimally a $100K investment just for the content, spending $30K on a CMS that does everything is not that bad.

i was hoping for a leased version which Stan said they were going to do but now he says its a long way off or maybe never.

So it's a lot more than most would need and from what you're saying a whole different ball game. If that's so, than that might make sense. But, not really someone looking at either of the two in the title would need or be able to use.

so, it isn't even in the same ball game as the two mentioned in the title?

someone needs to learn to market better ;) haha

we use sitedepth and they are normally very fast in a response, however, i did notice last week when i put in a trouble ticket, they have changed the "ticket system" but their website still listed the old location (which they won't answer) have your friend try this address
