Blog directory owners....why should I submit blogs to you?

with the insane amount of blog directories out there, I thought I would go about this another way

Blog Directory Owners - what makes your directory better than others and why should I bother submitting?

and if you REQUIRE a front page blogroll link, why should I give my fucking real estate to your blog directory? what am I getting in return for that prime front page real estate on my blog?

twan's blog directories are the only directories worth submitting to.

Heh, good point. I don't think I've ever gotten decent traffic from a blog directory. And by decent, I mean "a substantial fraction of what I send it."

I've got some domains for starting a few of my own directories, but I never have been able to get excited about the project. Near as I can tell they are mostly like any other sort of lame traffic exchange hub, pooling little dribs of accidental traffic and dripping it back out to the sources thereof. Good maybe for getting a new site off the ground as a newbie if you have zero traffic sources of your own, but otherwise not very valuable.

whats the big news?

Nicky 05-23-2007 09:01 PM

No big point in submitting to blog directories unless they have good PR category pages that you will stay on. Or as Forkbeard mentions above, if it is your first 1 or 2 blogs and you want to start off some trades or something

Angry Jew Cat - Banned for Life 05-23-2007 09:48 PM

for the most part twan has done me pretty well. i've been on a petty good run where just about evey blog i submit holds a spotlight position for a week or so now, which sends GREAT traffic, especially for a startup blog. i bury my blog dir links pretty deep, so i can't see myself sending much traffic back anyways.

Forkbeard has spoken. If only I had the aged blogs and quality natural backlinks you have bro!

Forkbeard 05-24-2007 10:21 AM

LOL, thanks Lori. I'll admit it, there's something to be said for having gotten started blogging in 2002.

But the quality backlinks are still out there to get; all it takes is time and a lot of decent blog posts. (Day in, day out, for years ... not a project for the man in a hurry.)

That's actually one of the reasons I love blogging, it creates what one of the big domainers calls "defensible" traffic. The only way for people to compete with me is to do what I do, which is blog pretty much every day in a quality fashion for freakin' years.

There's a few doing it, but the vast majority don't have the patience or the persistence. They come, they flash, they dwindle, they go. Somewhere during that cycle, usually early, they get impatient and start looking for traffic tricks. Like, say, blog directories. :winkwink:
