A ring flash not a ring light there is a difference.

I've used one on the past though is was a Profoto rental. But have also been wanting to get the Alienbee one for myself. Looks great if the girl has big bright eyes. Also works good with a softbox above and behind you as a fill.

Ringflash kicks ass, but you gotta get the trick when shooting with it, esp on the exposure side. If you buy one, I'd suggest you to also buy a MoonUnit soft box, you'll be amazed at the results :thumbsup

I shoot with one... Hensel ringflash... 1200w/s.. kicks ass. I use it during daytime shoots on occasion (with a portable battery).. like having portable studio lights.. don't know of anything that matches it yet (but I did buy it last year). It even has diffused glass for a softer light than the clear glass gives. Even better, if I want to look really goofy, there is a 42" umbrella softbox that you can attach to it.. but it works really well!!

The only problem with the ringflash is you have to be dead nuts on your exposure... then don't move around without making adjustments (distance from subject is critical).

The ringflash and fill is a very common set-up.. used it many times.

ring flash should not be used as primary lighting in erotica, if used at all it should be only for very light fill.

it is ok for dental photography, not so ok for making a woman beautiful.

if used on the face you will see crows feet on an 18 yr old.

I believe www.amateurallure.com uses a ringflash and also a similar light on his video camera.

Great for those who think photography and pornography are the same thing.

latinasojourn has it right.

I personally know of about 8 Maxim/Stuff covers that say you're wrong.
