Photoshop CS3 Ext. owners, please, look inside

I'm using PS CS now and have a lot of psd's I made with it. Today I downloaded a trial version of PS CS3. It's nice as long as I do not open my old psd's in it. It crashes every time I do that.

Does anyone experience the same? Is there any tool that coverts old psd's into a newer format?

It's time to buy an updated software but I'm a bit confused with a fact that I will have to use 2 versions at the same time that makes no sense for me.

Thx in advance for you answers.

D0h! Fuck.. I had not checked my old PSDs in CS3 yet... Now I just did and its crashing for me also... This BAD! I sure as hell hope there is some fix for it...

Ummm..is this a pirated version or did ya buy it?
I have CS3 and have no problems opening up anything.

I use only licensed software.
Will I hear any constructive thoughts from you or you will just keep trolling?

badgergroup 05-19-2007 04:00 AM

works fine here..

Dude... he was asking to keep options open.

Personally I am having NO problems with the application.

You should contact Adobe instead of worrying too much. It's not the app, coz it's fine for me... it must be your system.

did you try to open a psd made with CS?

My system runs fine. I didn't have any issues with Adobe Software before. When I moved from PS 7 to CS, all files I had before, can be easily open/edited in CS. One more time: I'm using a trial version. I doubt they provide support for trial software.

Twisted Dave 05-19-2007 04:43 AM

I can open all PSD's ... I created PSD's with version 7 years ago that I can now open with no problems, and of course, with CS.... that works also.

I honestly don't think Adobe will ignore you ... if you ask them. Tell them you will not be buying Adobe CS3 because the files wont open. Then explain what happens ... they'll help you I am sure :)

Yoni 05-19-2007 05:07 AM

thx, will try to contact them :)
it appears it has more bugs that I could expect LOL
1. When I click a type tool, it crashes
2. When I try to adjust a tool palette, it crashes
That's pretty strange.

Twisted Dave 05-19-2007 05:09 AM

Yoni. I have none of those problems. You definitely need to reinstall Windows! :D lol

stickyfingerz 05-19-2007 05:16 AM

Sounds like you have a possible ram issue to me.

I don't think so :) I have a brand new PC, it's just 4 months old.
I suppose that PS CS3 does not support true type fonts. That's why it crashes.

stickyfingerz
Don't think so either. Have no issues with other applications, none of them.

Twisted Dave 05-19-2007 06:34 AM

Yoni ... Photoshop CS3 has not crashed using ANY of the 4500 True Type Fonts I have access to so far :)

It works fine with them.

What os you running and how many gigs of ram. I ran 4gb on 32 bit xp for awhile and had a lot of programs that had unexplained crashes and issues. Pulling out 1gb to the recomended 3gb solved all thos issues. Ram does funny things at times.

Yoni 05-19-2007 07:23 AM

you're a lucky guy :)

I don't really know what's wrong with it. I just want to be sure it works fine on my PC before I buy an update.

I wouldn't start a thread if it worked well on my machine. I'm not able even to open a character palette, because it crashes again. It seems that this trial is just a shitty beta.

Yoni 05-19-2007 07:25 AM

I'm on a 32 bit winxp pro sp2 with 2 gigs of ram.

ungratefulninja 05-19-2007 07:37 AM

I had strange crashing of a particular program, so I ran memtest.. There was a few errors on a fairly new stick of RAM, replaced it and fixed everything. So it could possibly be the memory.

Yoni 05-19-2007 07:55 AM

will try to test the memory

PointerAdv_Lindsay 05-19-2007 08:07 AM

I have had the same thing happen to me with memory. Can create all sorts of fun shit to deal with. Ugh...

So can fonts. I have issues with TrueType fonts occassionally. I convert them to Open Type fonts to avoid that.

I have also downloaded trials of software and had them not install properly. I would take it off your machine and start over. Find a different source to download it if you're willing to do it again. Adobe may be able to tell you if the bug has been reported so you can not waste any more time until they fix it. :P

Good luck!

Yoni 05-19-2007 08:27 AM

I've already submitted a ticket to Adobe.

Though all of you guys tell me that the problem is with the memory, I give it 1% only. I run lots of applications and all of them work well.

I downloaded a trial of Dreamweaver CS3. It just works with no problems. Bridge CS3 works with no issues.

I do a lot of memory consuming tasks like video encoding or 3d rendering and never had problem with my system.

I'll run a memtest to be sure there are no hardware errors.

Kevin Marx 05-19-2007 09:43 AM

I am running on Mac OS X with no problems.... I haven't touched PS CS since like 3 months after CS2 came out so my psd's are all CS2 version.

CurrentlySober 05-19-2007 11:43 AM

Is it the BETA version ?

If so, do this:
- Browse to C:Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS3\AMT
- Rename the file called application.sif to application.xx

Restart, see if that helps....

Yoni 05-19-2007 11:47 AM

it's not the beta version. It's a trial version. All betas stopped working on May 4, if I'm right.

Twisted Dave 05-19-2007 11:47 AM

Yoni ... I'm still sure you're just unlucky. I know a LOT of artists using Photoshop al day every day... CS3. Not having any problems. And btw, I also ran the trial for a period to check it out. It's not a shitty beta. It's a trial. It's actually the exact same code as the full release version. You can even put a serial number into the trial to make it run the full version etc.

Ragging Rhino 05-19-2007 11:49 AM

Yoni, The reason why I asked. there are tons of people who download cracked versions. The cracked ones tend to have problems, more than the bought ones do.

I see, but in my first post I wrote that I downloaded a trial version.

yep, I can turn it into a full version just inserting a serial number and activating it. May be you're right and I have to test RAM. As I'm working now, I'll run a test at night. Will post results later.

Thx.

Yoni 05-19-2007 05:35 PM

tested the memory, no errors found.

The Truth Hurts 05-19-2007 06:23 PM

been using it about a month now..
no problems opening any files.

still manage to crash it every now and then.. usually involving copying shit to the clipboard.

Yoni 05-23-2007 04:03 AM

I tried to remove ALL fonts from this folder C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Fonts and run PS. It started working. So the problem was with a font or some of them.

Twisted Dave 05-23-2007 04:05 AM

Yeah ... one of your fonts may be corrupt .... I think I once had that a couple of years ago ...
