I wonder why do they make it so hard to find the phone number on there site?

NoCarrier 08-23-2002 07:17 AM

I wouldn't use Paypal even if it was the last alternative on earth. This shit is not FDIC insured, if they go bankrupt or decide to leave with your money, you are fucked!

ARS had problems with them for their webmasters paypal payments last month..

And reading those horror stories :

http://paypalwarning.com/WallOfShame/

Even if 1% of the messages are true, it's still a good reason to stay away from them and never do business. Unless you've been using them for the past 2 years and never had problems (Like 100% of people who got fucked for 2$ or 10000000$. They thought the same thing)

Paypal has fucked alot of people - just look at all the warnings about it.
If your so anal you can't wait for a check to arrive, then setup payments to be made by wire.

Use paypal at your own risk.

- Grasp leg firmly at ankle

- Try and stretch muscles in jaws as widely as possible

- Steady and even pressure pulling outwards

- If foot doesn't come out with a resounding POPPING sound...

- Lube around edges of foot with KY and retry

If you cannot remove foot from mouth, call Paramedics immediately for emergency service!

It pays to read before making comments. FDIC was in place with PayPal a couple of years ago, at least, due to the nature of how paypal even handles the funds you have with them. :Graucho

paypal makes so many peoples lives easier, you can make money transfers at home.. i dont usually keep more than $500-1000 in my account... if they go bankrupt and i lose my money in there, so be it ! they saved me a lot of time.. its worth it..

well, if you guys use it like a savings account, then i dont have anything to say..

This all happened a month ago...

Well here's my complete story, i have a paypal account for a while now. I only used it to transfer small amounts of money like $30-$200. I never completed my subscription to paypal by entering this 4 digit numbers. Thats why i was limited to transfer $1000 at a time. Fine with me, i thought i was more safe like that.

Now i had to transfer $1000 to the best designer i know :Graucho . Everything went fine, i was on icq he received the $$$ and transferred it to his bankaccount.

Anyway a few days later i received an email that this transaction looked like a fraud. And they reversed the money transfer. The guy i transferred the money to is now $960 short on his account. And as the status on my account states the money was transferred back to my CC ..... NOT! I called mastercard a few hours ago and still nothing.

YES I ONLY WANTED TO XFER $1000,-, THATS MY LIMIT!!! WHY IS THERE A FUCKING LIMITATION ON MY ACCOUNT THEN ?

FUCKING PAYPAL SUCKS ASS. they're fucking lucky i dont live in the us .

I never ever gonna use paypal anymore, and i recommend everyone else to do the same

:BangBang:

READ the rules and learn how to fucking use paypal, and you will not have any problems.

I have had nothing but impeccable customer service from them whenever there is a problem which last time had to do with an empty ATM machine, and was not PayPal's fault.

If your account has limitations its because you either did not put the right stuff on file with them or you have not upgraded enough to be moving thousands of dollars through their system.

Paypal is one of the coolest things IMO when it comes to getting paid, but if you are a moron you will have problems.

pr0 08-23-2002 09:16 AM

Damn thats rough bro, i just used my paypal account for the first time last night to send choker some $ for traffic. I will never send more than 100$ or receive more than 100$ now that i've seen all these complaints.

mrthumbs 08-23-2002 09:23 AM

Paypal reversed a payment (after 2 month or so) without reason, put my account on hold (no response to my fax) and my $1000
is still stuck somewhere in /dev/null.

Same happened to a Dutch friend.

Paypal is a fucking nightmare if you're european.

Im sure they offer a great service for US/CA clients
but that just doesnt help.

Gemini 08-23-2002 09:30 AM

We've used it almost from its inception and moved alot more than 1k at a time many times. Never had a problem in all these years. (Although until the FDIC went in to effect, we kept our bulk in the regular bank and drew from that)

Odds are most of the problems occur when people do not follow the rules or don't allow them a chk acct no. etc. They ARE a bank and if you don't trust THEM better get your $$ out and under your mattress.

When they legitimately lock an account for checking an odd movement of cash, they are protecting YOU. The brick and mortar bank down the street will do the same thing if all of a sudden some odd cash movement happens. Say you usually only pay utilities etc... then all of a sudden a check for 10 or 20k comes in... Guess what? Clang. Also they have your signature on file and can compare it to the check, so there are many more checks and balances in the brick bank than you ever know about. I used to move very large sums to other countries to purchase materials and they would call me to verify the check was real. Even having my and my ex's signatures on file. lol

Its just easier to deal with a brick and mortar since you can walk in and they see a person versus email or phone calls. If you don't want to give paypal the information they really need to not worry about the cash movements, then don't use them. Pay those high costs on wires. We will continue using paypal until such time that ebay messes them up, if that doesn't happen, they are the best way to make payments online cheaply.

First of all it was 1k, secondo their affecting my business. So everybody having problems with paypal is a moron ... I think you really should shut the FUCK up :321GFY

slackor 08-23-2002 10:40 AM

PayPal is not a bank, I had my account frozen and it took about 10 phone-calls, e-mails and faxes to fix it. A month later they decided to unfreeze it. Turned out logging in from another country is triggers the fraud system.

Never keep any more than you can't afford to lose in your PayPal account.

Hi,

They placed my account on hold as well(with 200 bucks in it)

I mailed and filled in the form 298047293429 times, with no luck.

After ebay bought paypal, I thought well I try it one more time.

I filled in the form in the memberarea. CHanged my pass, and secret question etc.(like they ask you to do after filling in the form)

And guess what? within 10 days my aaccount was open again!

I was cheated by a merchant who I paid via paypal, and never shipped the goods (a performance modification for my car). Paypal would not refund me any of my money until I threatened a chargeback, and then only 30%. I did a chargeback and got back 100%. Paypal never took away their 30. All in all, I still use paypal, but only when I'm positive the deal is safe, and I always fund my account with a CC that I know will chargeback on my whim.

Rex 08-24-2002 06:51 AM

I just won a dispute somebody filed against me 30 days ago. They had like 160 bucks tied up for 30 days which kind of blew. If you call and bug themn then I think it helps your case. I called about every other day and eventually won. The lady was a lying hahahaha too.

I had a guy rip me off for $500. which I had paid him thru paypal. They told me tough shit. The person was a verified business member. I had to take care of it myself. :ak47: FUCK PAYPAL

DarkestWeb 08-24-2002 02:31 PM

For all of you that say PayPal is great, you will think that until they do it to you, completely RANDOM and for no reason at all. I used to think they were great and these stories were from individuals who didn't follow the rules, until they did it to me. Locked my account one day just for the hell of it apparently. Took me 4.5 months to get it open again so I could get my money out, fuck them.

PayPal are not FDIC insured - they use a bank that is to hold the funds - which means that up to $100,000 per person is insured if the bank fails.

If PayPal fails there would likely be a shitfight with creditors over who gets the money in peoples "accounts". Whilst you have money in your PayPal account you are a creditor of PayPal's, so in an insolvancy technically you line up with all the other creditors. Now they think their terms and conditions protect your money a bit and make you a sort of "priority creditor" but you can be your life that there would be a shitfight in the courts to see who eventually got that money - and you wouldnt see it for a long time.

Now having said that - I use PayPal and move a shitload of cash through it. Havent yet had a problem with it but you personally dont have to do anything wrong to have your account frozen - just receive a payment from someone dodgy and your account will be frozen too. This is all because PayPal initially lost a shitload to fraud (in one case over $7mil to one guy in one day).

And PayPal wont protect you from sending money to people who are dodgy, just the same as if you sent them a cheque and they never send the goods. Use your credit card and you can atleast charge it back - but you will very likely lose your PayPal account if you do.

the phone number takes about 10 seconds to find on the site. find it. use it. love it.

I would never mail or fax about sums of money.
Humanise what is owed people.
I have always found their customer support to be first class. That said I still don't keep over 1k in my account, and their exchange rate bites dog balls.

I can't say anything bad about paypal. PayPal completely ROCKS, I even have my own banker over there, whom I can call on cell-phone at midnight if I am having problems.

It's a really cool place. I had problems before, but once you learn their basic rules, they will not put you through shit. Just do what they want you to do, and you will benefit from them.
