had my first Xbox 360 tech problems... RED RINGS OF DEATH

my xbox 360 got those three red rings of death that people have been talking about, a hardware failure. had to send it in and they sent me a new one about a week later.

cant believe it happened to me :( i always thought it was BS but its for real so make sure you got your warranties in check

just got it back yesterday, it smells like a new Xbox 360 and all the crumbs that were inside of it are gone now

i didnt realize how much i loved it till it was gone. watched movies and played videogames all day when i got it back :pimp:

LOL, did your XBox answer the phone and some chick said "7 Days" to it?

Check the serial number on the one you got back and make sure it matches the one you sent in. There's been plenty of stories on the XBOX forums about MS sending different "fixed" units back to apparently speed up the process but that means that any games or content you purchased and downloaded from XBOX Live can only be played online.

i have a hard drive for it so stuff i downloaded is on there

When you send it in you send it in without the hard drive so you never loose the content

mine died like 3 weeks after my warrantee ran out. i heard alot of the problems in earlier models stemmed from poorly soderred connections melting away from the vidoe card due to etreme heats within the console. the early models were rushed along and the connections were made quickly. looks like i'll be cracking open the box on my own pretty soon here. i'm going crazy with no 360...

mine is one of the first units out

it died last summer, so i called microsoft and even though the warranty had expired, they still fixed it for me for free

then even sent me the box to send it in, i didnt have to pay any shipping for it

I know, but if the unit they send back is different you can only use the content while signed into XBOX Live because the serial numbers don't match.

I got the rings too.. They send it to germany and 2 weeks later I got a new one in return that makes much less noise than the old one + a new headset and a 1 month free gold subscription card aswell.

no, you don't lose the content, BUT when they send you a new console and you put the hard drive back on the games (arcade stuff) and all that was tagged for your original 360 so the games will only work if you're connected to xbox live. This is the same with other things you got from the marketplace using your original 360.

I got the red rings about 3 weeks after I got min in January of this year.. It did that for awhile then stopped. Now it does it once in awhile. I'm still gonna send it in though since it's still on warranty. I'm just having a hard time parting with it lol

Always buy the extra warranty with replacement option ;)

Mine has gone south like that too, got it replaced and I made sure to buy another warranty.

Remember when these things could take serious beatings, spilled koolaide etc. ? The old Nintendos and Sega systems were made to be abused, these new game systems are so sophisticated that they can't be left on too long without overheating.

i got a free month of xbox live too but no headset wtf
