In November, Zango reached a settlement with the Federal Trade Commission to pay $3 million in ill-gotten gains in response to charges that it deceptively installed adware onto PCs without user consent and then obstructed its removal, violating federal law.

Under terms of the settlement, Zango also must refrain from installing software, without easy removal instructions, onto customer computers that can be monitored remotely without the user’s consent.

StarkReality 05-18-2007 04:14 PM

Hahaha, that's what I call KARMA !

will76 05-18-2007 04:20 PM

PC Tools isn't really stealing Zangos traffic, they are helping us get our traffic and have it go to the people who paid for it.

We should get behind this company see if there is anything we can do to help. I am sure they are helping to clean the net of Zango's shit and every person they help clean is a step in the right direction. If they fold to them it doesn't help us any.

Yep, hopefully they'll put the affiliate code hijacking trojans on their list as well. Was about time that someone decided that adware is just a nice word for theft.

will76 05-18-2007 04:29 PM

Fuck t hat idea. This pisses me off. The dont want to give an email so I use their webpage based contact form, type up a nice 10 minuted message to them hit submit and their site has a error, hit back and the info is wipped out. fuck it. thanks for the waste of time when trying to help.

RawAlex 05-18-2007 04:41 PM

The Zango legal team must smoke Harvard style crack or something to come up with this one.

Zango's stance has always been "we aren't stealing traffic, because the end user agreed to install our software", while more often than not their install was either force, hidden, or with a "play video" or "play game" link rather than a clear confirmation of what the user wanted.

Now they are getting upset because a spyware / malware detection software pops up and prompts the users that have chosen to use that software to remove zango...

Guys, you can't have it both ways - either the computer is the users domain and he can do what he likes, or he can't. If he can, then spyware detectors can report your stuff and the user can choose to remove it, or if the use doesn't control his computer in this manner, then there is no way your software would be there to start with.

Zango are rapidly becoming the largest pricks on the internet by far.

Adware provider Zango has sued computer security software vendor PC Tools over its Spyware Doctor anti-spyware program, alleging that it illegally removes Zango from users PCs without notifying them.

All your Zango's are belong to us!

dpRoberts 05-19-2007 11:17 AM

If the general user public understood that any application was manipulating another application beyond its intended use, they'd probably uninstall or not install it in the first place. How do you get that information infront of them?

Well put :thumbsup

Why is it that Zango has taken the evil spotlight all by itself?

Were there not their some major sponsors who knowingly exploited Zango's "capabilities" at the direct expense of their own affiliates' sales?

exactly. and if the installs are consensual, then they aren't breaking any laws that exist.

amazing that people still don't get that their own friends are still hijacking their traffic by bidding on their site URL's.

Plus all the people getting the installs out there, the affiliates buying from Zango and the sponsors who take no action against them.

Isn't it somewhat pointless to knock the people producing the "tools" while carrying on business as usual with the people who use them?

Some people only see next weeks wage packet. Maybe because it's needed to pay last weeks bills.

Others will fuck who ever they can to get to or stay at the top.

And so many are more impressed by the size of a guys pimp hat rather than what he does and how he conducts his business.

Long term planning has never been a forte in the porn industry.

joshll 05-20-2007 04:37 AM
