Summer slowdown is a myth.

Traffic may go down on weekends, but signups have not changed.

People still work, people still go home at night, people still surf and beat their meat.

Not everyone sees a summer slump. Last summer was even for me... Then again, I should probably have been seeing growth, so that is a slump of a sort. This summer has been scary slow, with a few good weeks now and then. It happens.

Kids are home from school all day, and their parents don't dare look at porn. College kids are home at their parents' houses, and don't dare look at porn. Everyone is outside more, cuz the weather is better. People spend money on vacations, and can't afford porn. Etc...

yea but the odd thing is i have been in this bizzness since -96
i have stats from every single month and this month
is the slowest since -96
last years august where around 40% higher in sales
can it be that the world economic collapse finally have reached
the porn industry to ?
i am working with all kinds of traffic (se, tgp, link list etc etc)
and i see the signup drop in all traffic

It's only summer in a PART of the world.....no slowdown here...

August has been a bit slow for me as well...

same here, specially the last 2 weeks. The 1st week of august was very good, but then things didn't keep working that good. I think it's all mater of 3 weeks to see everything back to normal...maybe i'm wrong.

Sure my growth has slowed, but I'm still growing!

Us Content Providers must be an indication of a bigger spread of the business and we had our best month ever this month. Surpassed our previous best by the 20/08/2002 :)

You're right Goliat. I'm in the business since 5 years and I never see a down like that in the sale. A lot of webmaster will tell you that they made more signup for this month on this board but when you know them personally you see the true. I hope to see a better result in September.

My mainstream business (which uses the same 'model' as
most adult sites) had 30% less sales in july, beginning of august
it started to pick up but for the last 2 weeks it's been down.
at least 40% less compared to 'average'.

Well see what happens in september.

Usually my first period sales are about half of my second period sales. From the looks of it, I think this month will be the complete opposite unless people start paying up.

This has been my worst month in my 4 years in the biz.. Just plain shit..

Anyway this is my first summer in biz so i dont know if its slow or fast :-)

Maybe there are some lucky guys, but for me this month was really bad, about 50% less than last summer, it's terrible. Traffic dropped a bit, signups dropped alot....sites that did 1:200 or better for me a few months ago are up to 1:800 or even worse...only one sponsor still shows the same good results for me.

The good thing about this drop: It can only become better the next months ;)

I'm with you, Goliat. Its probably a confluence of many differing factors--niche, traffic source, marketing material rotation. But, of all my traffic sources, only sales from email is up. TGP -- sales down. EGP -- sales down. Software redirects -- sales down. AVS -- sales down. Modified CJ -- sales down. Paysite exits -- neutral.

Sure there are more people buying content as there are more sites.

But I would imagine the receipts per site are down.

there's no doubt about it, i've seen a summer slowdown in US sales every year for the last five years. but not to worry, all that extra work for less money will pay off in the months to come as both traffic and conversion ratios go up:)

BUT -- we took advantage of a time when people in the business are not really updating and releasing stuff, since they want to wait until September when the pickup starts, for those that think they are down in summer numbers.

Summer can work just like any other time -- IF you are creatively coming up with ideas and aggressively marketing them...
